NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR T UNDERWOOID ELLIOTT FISHER COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
COIPYI-IOLDER.
' Application filed May 5,
This invention relates to copy-holders for use with typewriters, etc., i
In typewriting speed contests a need has arisen for a special copy-holder. ing to .the present improvements,'the copy is at about right angles to the line of vision of the typist, and no training is required in its use. It is inexpensive, and before being set up it is fiat, so that severalcopy-holders can be packedcompactly for shipment. Its surfaces are suitable for printing advertise ments. It is simply and strongly made from a single blank of inexpensive cardboard.
The improved copy-holder may have a low front wall, a higher back wall,.and two symmetrical side walls, and means integrally joined with certain of the walls'for fasten ing them together detachably. Simple ledges onthe front wall prevent sheets of copy from sliding. L p
Other features and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a diagram of the blank from which the copy-holder is constructed.
Figure 2 is a rear perspective View copy-holder in set-up form.
Figure 3 is a front perspective View of the copy-holder in set-up form with a portion of the top broken away to show an arrangement for fastening a side wall and the back end wall together.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of the copy-holder, illustrating the fastening of a side wall to an extension of the front end wall. The top 1 of the copy-holder may be downwardly inclined toward the front at an angle that allows the copy to lie approximately at right angles to the line of vision of the typist. The top 1 may be supported by the low, front end wall 2, the back wall 3, which is higher than the front wall, and the two side walls 4 having trian 'ular form. Said walls 2, 3 and 4 may be lunged to the top 1 along crease or fold lines 15, 16 and 17. Line 15 need not be continuous.
In setting up the copy-holder, the side walls 4 may be folded to their approximate operative positions along the lines 17 and the flaps '5, which are provided on the back ends of the side walls, may be folded inwardly along thelines 19, so as to lie against the inside surface of the end wall 3 when the latter is folded along line 16. The end wall of the Accord- 1925. Serial 110,223,043.
3 may be locked to the flaps 5 by its tongues engaging in slits 12 in flaps 5, Figure 3.,
The low wall 2 may next be folded along as to lie against and on the outside of the sidewalls 4, and enter the slits 13 in the sidewalls 4 and be locked to the walls by bending the tips transverselyto the side walls 4 along the fold-lines 21,- as illustrated iii-Figure 4. The tips 20 may be provided by cutting the slits 14 a short distance into the flaps 7. I y
The low wall 2 is provided with the two bracket-portions 8 cut out of the top 1, by making the slits 9 in three sections joined atfiobtuse angles and having the slitsjstart andstop on the line 15, which line will not be marked or scored across the bottom of the bracket-portions 8. v
When the end wall 2 is folded to its normal position at approximately right angles to the top 1, the bracket-portions 8 will project above the plane of the top 1.
When the copy-holder is set up for use, the brackets 8 keep the copy from sliding.
To allow the copy-holder to be readily lifted with one hand, bottom portions of the side walls 4 at 24. 4
The copy-holder can be quickly unfolded or knocked down to the flat form shown in Figure 1. It can also be readily seen that the copy-holder can be folded into various convenient forms for packing away. 1
Practically all of the outside areas of the end and sidewalls of the copy-holder may be used for printing advertisements thereon,
thus making it adaptable for use as an ad-.
vertising novelty, especially for business shows. I
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the'invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A-collapsible copy-holder for typists, comprising a foldable cardboard box provided with/a top downwardly inclined toward the front of said copy-holder; two
15, taking care not to' are formed with finger-holes" rectangular end walls and" two side support-v ing wallsfor said top; the two-sidewalls having extensions foldable to fit on'the in;
terior of-the back rectangular wall ,;with locking means between ,said. interior extensions and the exterior back wall, the front end wall having an extension foldable under the two side walls, and locking means extending upwardly and through thesidewa'lls two brackets arranged at right angles to said top vand adjacent itsi lower; end; and means for allowing said bracketstolie in the same plane with said topwhen said copy-holder is knocked down fiat.
2. A collapsible copy holder for typists, comprising afoldable cardboard box provided with atopdownwardly inclined toward the front of said box front and rear rectangular end walls and two symmetrical side walls-arran ed for upholding said top the front end wa lyhaving an extension foldable under the side walls; and 'detachably engageable means-for fastening said walls togetheiysaid side walls having portions adjacent their lower edges cutaway so that a typists fingers may be inserted under said side walls to' lift said box.
3. A collapsiblecopy-holder for typists, comprising a foldable cardboard box made from a. single blank provided with atop downwardly inclinedtoward the front of said box; a t'rOntend wall, and a back end wallhigher than said front end-wall and two symmetrical side wal1s,;said end and side walls integrally hinged to said top, said side walls each provided with a slit adjacent said ro 1 and wa a nd a nt emlly as 'flap, said flag having a slit therein arranged for detacha le engagement with aitongue :integrally joined to said back end wall for extension-flaps; in said-slits in said side walls, and said frontend wall-arranged with two integrally-joined brackets projecting above said inclined top. a
4. A collapsible copy-holder for typists comprising a foldable box -made from a single blank provided with a top downwardly inclined toward the front of said copyholder, a front end wall, a rectangular back end wall and two sides supporting said top and 'integrally hinged thereto, said front end wall having a portion extending back ender the side'wvalls; an detachable engageable means integral with said blanket-ranged for fastening said walls together.
