Application iledJanuary 1,2, 1927. Serial No. 160,698.
further object'is `to provide a device of*V this character having means for locking it extended for use so that the holder will not accidentally collapse.
With the foregoing and other objects in view Vwhich will appear as the'desciipt'ion proceeds, the invention residesV in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of y the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of Vwhat is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, the preferred form of the invention has been shown.y
In said drawings, Y
Figure l is a front elevation of the rack. Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2,Figure 1. Figure 3 is a section onl line 3 3, Figure-l. Figure 4 is a section through 'a portion of the holder showing the same folded.
,Referring to the figures' by charactersr of reference l designates a base plate .provided Vwith an opening 2, a portion ofthe metal removedfrom this opening being bent upwardly to provide opposed ears 3. A spring vtongue 4 is riveted or otherwise attached at one end to the 4plate lfor, if preferred, can be made integral therewith in which event the tongue would be made mainly ofthe metal removed in the formation of the open' ing 4. An opening 5 is providedl inthe tongue near its free end.
A cross strip 6 is interposed between the ears and has studs 6 projecting from its ends mounted for rotation within the ears; To this strip 6 is attached a standard 7 and l' the outer end ofY the standard has a cross strip 8 secured thereto. This strip may be provided, at each end, with an elongated clip 9,'the two clips being parallel soV as to engage the end, portions of a card inserted therebetween. In Figure l a card has been indicated at C` by broken lines. The lower,l
end of the standard 'projects beyond or-out` wardly from the cross strip 6 andV is so proportioned as to be'insertible into the opening A5 in the tongue 4.
When the holder Iis not Vin use the standard 7 will be supported substantially parallel with the baseV plate l, it being heldin such a position by contact of the spring 4 with of suflicient proportions. The use of this folding device will also prevent cards from the strip Sas yshown, in Figure .4. Thus 'the device can be compactly, stored in v a bundle. of merchandise or in :any small space 65. l
being bent when laid on a counter or shelf.
When it is desired Vto .use the holder it A1s merely vnecessary to swing the'standardor Y strip ,7 away from the plate l. yThis will cause the projecting end l10 of the standard to pressy against the spring tongue Gand push it downwardly until the end l0 arrives above the opening 5 at which time the tonguel Will rswing up into engagement kwith the end'` `v l0 and thus lock the standard in raised `position as shownparticularly in Figure 2.
lBy providingthe aperture 2 inl the base plate 1 it ispossible to mount the spring-4 flat upon'the base plate, the openingprovidingjsulicient clearance to'permit'not only rec'eptioniof v-tlie projecting end 10 of the strip 8 but also to permitjdepression of the spring into the opening 2 to move itclear of the end 10 and to permit .said end to properly depress the spring when ther strip is swungto upright position. Thus avery compact structure iS Possible, saidstructure ,l l* being adaptedto lie practically flat and .thusr occupyV a very small space. What is claimed is:
VA device of the class describedincluding i a flat platehaving an aperture, ears at oppositesides of the aperture and upstanding from the plate, said ears being formed of material removed in the formation of the aperture, a spring secured vat one end flat upon the plate and having its other end portion extending partlyacross the aperture and between the ears, across strip journaled in the ears, said vcross strip being angular in cross section, a standard-secured to and movable with the cross strip, card holding. los.
means carried by oneend of the standard, the other end of .said standardy being .pro-
jected beyondthe cross strip, there being an f aperture in that portion of the spring overg 1,eacs,1eoV
hang'ing the opening in the base plate, said depressble into the *opening in the Vplate.
l vsp1-ing constituting means for holding the terelese the standard;
aperture in the spring being adapted to reas my roWn,\I have hereto afxed my sig- 5 c :eive` the projecting end of the'standard bo nature. `e Y f vtion `relative fo the plete',V said spirig bein'g' i FREDERICK WILLIAM SCHEPMAN.
