CHANGEABLE PRICE TAG.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in price tags applicable to merchandise displayed in shop windows and more particularly to a changeable price tag, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this' character for permanent use by the owner whereby the same may be applied to various garments at various times to display various prices, as may be desired.

A further object of the invention resides in providing a tag of the character mentioned which will enable the owner thereof to insert changeable reading matter in connection with the price notations used therewith..

Still another object resides in constructing the tag and changeable elements thereof of such material as will enable the same to be quickly and readily cleaned by washing so that a permanently clean tag may be had at all times.

A still further object resides in constructing the tag so that a holder is formed adapted to receive laterally and` vertically moveable and changeable inserts, the lateral insert forming a limitation or stop member for the vertically movable inserts.

Still another object of the invention resides in providing a device of the character mentioned which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will' be very useful and advantageous in trade. i

With these and numerous other objects in View, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly'pointed out in the specification and Eclaims.

In describing the invention l shall refer 2 is a horizontal section therethe line 2--2 of Figto the` drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which l designates a blank of any preferred size and shape formed preferably of Celluloid or any of the numerous imitations thereof, although 1t may be constructed of metal, wood, fibre, paper or any other desired material. Celluloid or the various compositions similar thereto and in imitation thereof is preferable in view of its attractiveness, its lightness in weight and the fact 'that it may be used permanently and at the same time kept clean. Upon the front face of the blank adjacent the upper edge thereof is preferably printed, or otherwise impressed therein, the name of the dealer using the tag and said blank has an enlarged central portion cut therefrom to provide an opening designated by the numeral 2. Below the enlarged opening 2 and spaced therefrom, as well as belng spaced from the lower edge of theblank, is formed a second cutout portion or opening 3 which is preferably elongated in a horizontal direction, as clearlly shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.

Applied to the rear face of the blank 1 and spaced therefrom slightly by means of the vertical and horizontal edge-strips 4 is a back plate 5 formed of the same materiales the blank l. This back plate 5 is of the same width as the blank l and has its lower edge flush with the lower edge of said blank but itis shorter than said blank and forms substantially a pocket on the rear face of the blank. The blank, edge-strips 4 and rear plate 5 are secured together in any preferred manner, such as by an adhesive, and a complete holder is thus formed.

The one side edge-strip terminates at its lower end in a plane just above the horizontal plane of the upper edge of the openin 3 which provides a slot 6 in the one side e ge of the device whereby a strip or insert 7 may be introduced therethrough so that reading matter or other indicia appearing thereon may be displayed through the opening l3 in the blank l. When so inserted, the strip or insert 7 rests upon and is guided on the lower horizontal edge-strip 4 and the movement of said strip 7 is limited in one direction by the vertical edge-strip 4 on the side of the blank opposite that in which the slot 6 is formed, as appears obvious fromA Figure 3 of the drawing. This strip or insert l may contain any desiredv reading matter. as stated, such as the words Speciah or iReduced, and said strip is preferably formed of the same material as the other portions of the device.

The strip 7 fits snugly between the blank l and the rear plate 5 and in order to assist in the removal of said strip, the blank 5 is cutaway slightly as shown at 8 and the strip is provided adjacent its one end with an orifice which may be observed through the cutaway portion 8. Thus, the point of a pencil or other instrument may be inserted in the orifice 9.and said strip readily withdrawn when desired.

My improved tag also contemplates use of a plurality of additional strips designated by the numeral 10 which are inserta le vertically in the pocket formed between the blank I l and the back plate 5. These strips are adapted to be introduced through the opening formed in the upper end of the pocket and said strips, which are also formed of the same material as the other portions of the tag, have printed, impressed or embossed thereon numerals which are preferably. In contrasted color to the coloring of the strips; so as to be displayed through the opening 2 in the blank l. These strips 10 which bear the numerals are of such width that a predetermined number of the same may tit in the pocket between the two vertical edvestrips 4 and the lower edges of said strlps are adapted to rest upon the upper edge of the laterally movable strip 7. Obviously, these strips 10 may be interchanged to display various numerals and correspondingly various prices for the garments to which the tag is applied for display. Each strip l0 is adapted to contain one numeral, although more than one numeral may be applied thereto and, in fact, reading matter or other indicia may be applied to these strips as desired for display purposes.

When properly supported in position in the pocket of the device so that the lower edges of the strips 10 rest upon the upper edge of the laterally movable strip 7, the upper ends of said strips 10 project above the upper edge of the rear plate 5, as clearly shown in Figures 4 and 5 of the drawing and as said strips 10 lit snugl prefer to form openings or ori ces l1 therein adjacent the upper ends so that the point of a pencil or other instrument may be 1nser'ted therein and said strips readily withdrawn from the thereon.

It will be observed from the foregoing description that I have provided a change able price tag wherein certain elements are removable through vertical movement and a certain element removable through a lateral movement, the laterally movable element acting as a support or` limitation for pocket by forcing upwardly in place, I n

the vertically movable elements. This particular construction affords simplicity in construction and corresponding cheapness in manufacture. Vihile the horizontally or laterally movable element is disclosed herein with certain reading matter adapted to be displayed and co-related to the data appearing on the vertically movable strips, it will be understood that a blank strip, if desired, may be used as a support for the vertically movable strips. The construction enables the strips to be readily removed and interchanged when desired so that a permanent price tag is thus produced.

From the foregoing description ot the construction of my improved device, the opera tion thereof and application to use will be readily understood, and it will be seen that have provided a simple, inexpensive'and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention. While I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details Vof construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the principles of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is:

l. A tag including a holder, removable display strips slidable vertically therein and an additional removable strip slidable laterally on said holder in the same vertical plane with the aforesaid strips and adapted, when in place` to support and limit the movement of said first mentioned strips in one direction.
