lily present invention relates to an apparel garment and more particularly to a combined corset and vbrassire garment of the type adapted to yieldingly tit the body and in which devices are employed for controlling the position of and providing support for the diaphragm of thewearer. 'llo this end in carrying out the invention the garment is provided with yielding members l@ of suitable elastic material to provide for the yielding effect, and a diaphragm controlling strap also provided with parts of yielding material and underlying the outer parts of the garment so as to yieldingly support lll-il and control the diaphragm independently of the outer parts of the garment, as will be more particularly hereinafter describcd.
ln the drawing Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the use of the garment made in accordance with this, invention..
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the garment, and l Fig. 3 is a plan showing the parts of the garment in an extended position.
Referring to the drawing it will be seen that in carrying out the invention the garment preferably comprises a front member, a back member, side members havingpor- .tions thereof made of yielding material, and a diaphragm strap which also includes mem bers of yielding material and extends from the edges of the back member so as to underlie the side members and the front member. As illustrated, the front member comprises a central section l() and lateral sections 1l and l2. The upper portion of the front member may be made of a suitable lace or network material l'which is connected to the upper edge portions of the sections of the'front member by reinforcing tapes 14e, l5 which cross each other at the upper central portion 16 of the central section and eX- tend to the upper edge of the garment. This lace section'l also preferably extends below to the upper edges of the other sections of the front member' cured thereto by suitable lines of stitching, the lower edge of the lace member being indicated atV 17.- The central section of the front member is connected to the lateral sections thereof by suitable reinforcing strips t8 and 19 and the necessary lines of stitching or otherwise.
The back member also preferably comprises a central section 20 and lateral Sectti and may be se? tions 2l and 22 These are connected to one another by reinforcing strips 23 and 2l and the necessary lines of stitching, and also as indicated, may be provided with. suitable stays or reinforcing members. lEach side member preferably includes an upper section of inelastic material and a lower section of elastic material. llhe right hand side member consequently includes an upper section, 25 of inelastic material and a lower section 26 of elastic material.. ln like manner, the left hand side member comprises an upper section 27 of inelastic material and a lower section 28 of elastic material. |llhe section 1l of the front member is provided with a reinforcing strip 29 to which in suitable spaced positions is secured a series of hooks 30.` Similarly the edge of the left hand side'member is provided with a reinforcing strip 3l in which in positions corresponding to the spaced positions of the hooks 30 there is secured a series of eyes 32 each one of which is adapted to be engaged by one of the hooks 30.
*The garment also includes a diaphragm strap. This preferably comprises a front section 33 which may be fitted with suitable stays B/l and lateral sections 35 and 36. This diaphragm strap also includes sections of yielding material 37 and 38. This diaphragm strap is divided between the front section 33 and the lateral section 36. The free edge of the front section 33 is provided with a reinforcing strip 39 having a series of spaced hooks 40 secured thereto, and the free edge of the lateral section 36 is also provided with a reinforcing strip 4l in which' there is a. corresponding series of eyes 42 each adapted to be engaged by one of the hooks 40. The front section 83 of the diaphragm strap is connected to the adjacent edge of the lateral section 35 by a suitable reinforcing tape and suitable stitches as indicated at 43. The opposite edge of the lateral section 35 of the diaphragm strap is connected to the adjacentj edge of the yielding section 37 bye suitable reinforcing tape and lines of stitching 44. The opposite edge of the yielding section 37 is connected to the lateral section 2l of the baclr member and to the right hand side member by a suitable line of stitching ll5 which also connects the parts of these members to one another. In a similar manner one edge of the lateral section 36m? the diaphragm strap is connected dll to the adjacent edge of the yielding section -38 by a suitable reinforcing tape and a line inclined upwardly to generally conform tov the upper edges of the central and lateral sections of the front member, these terminating in a central point 48 which in use `lies approximately beneath the point 16 in the upper central edge of the sections of the front member.
The garment may be provided with suitable shoulder straps 49 and 50. vThe front ends of these `shoulder straps are connected to the u per edge of the front member at the-terminations of the reinforcing tapes 14 and 15. As illustrated, the garment is also provided with straps 51 and 52 which at corresponding ends are suitably secured to the upper central portion 48 of the diaphragm strap. and at their oppositeends to the upper edge of the frontmember of the garment at the same points at which the shoulder straps 49 and 50 are connected thereto.
The garment may also be fitted withl suit- `able hose supporters. As illustrated, the hose supporters 53 .and 54 are secured to the lower edge of the front member While hose supporters 55, 56, 57 and 58 are suitably spaced and secured to ,the lower edge of the` back member.
It will now be understood that the garment hereinbefore described is one which is open` at the side thereof and that the diaphragm strap is also open on the corresponding side but not in the same line in which the outer members of the garment are opened and connected to each other. It will also be understood that lthe upper ends of the elastic sections 37 and 38 of the diaphragm` strap extend' appreciably above the elastic sections 26 and 28 of the side members and that the adjoining edges ofthe sections of the side members taper upwardly from the back member lto 'the front member, whereby there is a varying yielding effect produced in the use of the diaphragm l member to support and' control the diaphragm of the wearer. It will also be obvious that the upper portion of the front section of the garment is constructed to conform to the busts of the wearer and that Ithe diaphragm straps 51 and 52 are employed to maintain or assist in maintaining the central section of the diaphragm strap in its desired adjusted position.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a garment of the type described, a front member, a back member, side members each comprising an upper inelastic section anda lower elastic section, means for connecting the side members to secure thc garment in position on the body of the wearer, a diaphragm strap having elastic strips at the extremities thereof and which is connected to and extends from one side to the other side of the back member and is connected thereto in such positions that the upper portions of the elastic strips in the diaphrgam strap underlie the lower portions of the inelastic sections of the side members and the lower portions of the elastic strips of the diaphragm strap underlie the upper portions of the velastic sections of the .side members, and means for connecting the diaphragm strap in place on the body of the wearer.
2. In a garment of the type described, a front member, a back member, side members connected to and extending from the edges of thel back member and each comprising an upper section of inelastic material and a lower section of elastic material, the lower edge of the upper section of each side member being connected to the upper edge of the elastic section thereof and extending upwardly from the edge of the back member, means for connecting the side members to secure the garment in position on the body of the wearer, a diaphragm strap, elastic strips at the ends of the diaphragm strap, the said elastic strips being connected tothe edges of the back member in such" positions that the upper portions thereof underlie the lower portions of the upper inelastic sections of the side members and the lower portions thereof underlie the upper portions of the elastic sections of the side members, and means for connecting the diaphragm strap in'position on the body of the wearer.
