To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the following is a specification.

Heretofore, the. most general manner of constructing apparel corsets so as to adjust them to the body of the wearer has been to provlde eyelets and laces extending centrally or along the back medial line of the gar- I am aware that corset garments ment. have also been heretofore constructed in such a manner that these adjustable lacing devices have been arranged along the front medial line of the garment or in the front of the garment adjacent the front medial line thereof. In many instances also, I have heretofore provided both of these styles of corset garment with self-reducing straps and uplifting tension devices suitably placed andv connected in the lower front portions of the garments. The object of my present invention however, is the provision of an apparel corset in which the usual lacing devices for adjusting the garment to pos t on on the body of the wearer are entirely eliminated, and the garment is adjusted to the body solely by the adjustability of a novel form of front steel section and the manner I in which the sameis secured in the corset.

In carrying out my invention therefore, the garment preferably comprises body members which are permanently attached at. the back medial line and includes front steel sections adapted to be connected in the usual manner by clasps at the front medial line, each front steel section being secured to a portion of the corresponding body member of the garment for a predetermined part of its length, and each front steel section'being also connected to the corresponding body portion of the garment forward of the hip section thereof and fitted with adjusting devices extending over the waist line, in the adjustment of which the entire garment is fitted to position on the body of the wearer. The garment including my present invention may also be. provided withsuitable skirt members with which are associated, means for connecting the adjacent front edges of the skirt members to one another over the Specification of Letters Patent.

corset made in accordance with this invention preferably comprises body members 10 and 11 which are connected at their back edges byya strip of'elastic 12 or other suitable material so that the body of the garment is continuous from one front edge thereof to the other. v

In carrying out this invention, I employ front steel sections each comprising the front steel members 65 and 66 with their respective extensions 67 and 68 extending appreciable distances from the front steels.

The front steel section 65 in the left side: of the garment is connected to the upper forward edge of the left side of the body of the garment from the top edge thereof downwardly to the line indicated by 63 and from thisline to the lower extremity of the front steel, the front or" forward edge of the body member is free from the front steel section.

Similarly in the right side of the garment,

the front steel section 66 is connected to the right side of the body member along the forward edge from the top edge thereofto the line .64, and below this line 64 the forward edge of the right side of the garment is free from the front steel section. In the extensions of these front steel sections, there are seriesv of eyelets 69, and forming. a part of each front steel section there is the strap member 70. These strap members 7 0 are preferably made of elastic material and are adapted to lie over the waist line of the wearer of the garment. Along one edge eachstrap member 7 0 is secured to the body of the garment forward of, but adjacent the hip'section thereof overlying the waist line, and along its opposite edge is provided with a series of eyelets 71 corresponding to the eyelets 69. In the left side of this garment, I employ a lace 72 and in the right side thereof a lace 7 3. These laces are threaded double, although I do not wish to limit the invention to this form of lacing, and the lace in the left hand side of the garment is threaded through the eyelets 69 and 71, as well as through the eyelets 7 4 and 7 6 in the lower forward edge of the body of the garment so as to secure this portion of the corset in position at the same time making the lace available on the exterior of the garment. The lace 73 on the right side of the garment is also threaded through the eyelets 69 and 71 as well as through the eyelets 75 and 77 for the same purpose. In this structure, it will be apparent that first one end of each lace and then the other end of the lace may be drawn up so as to adjust the garment to position and the laces then tied together under a hook 7 8 provided for this purpose in the lower end of the front steel section 66 in a knot 7 9 which then lies under the front portion of the depending skirt members of the garment as shown in Fig. 1. It will also be noted, by reference to Fig. 3, that the upper portions of the skirt members at the front thereof, are adapted to overliethe lower portions of the front steels, the front lower portion 80 of the skirt in the left side of the garment being provided with a hook 81 and the lower front portion 82 of the skirt in the right side of the garment with a series of eyelets 83 adapted to be engaged by the hook 81 so that these front skirt portions may be adjustably connected over the lower ends of the front steels.

It will be understood that by passing the laces through the divided portions of the front steel sections as well as through the front edge of the garment, the adjustment of the laces to position not only adjusts the front steel sections and the entire garment to place, but also simultaneously draws to the proper position the front edges of the garment and holds these front edges of the garment in the desired position relatively to the front steel sections.

From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that the corset structure hereinbefore described, is one in which the adjustable front steel sections are so placed in the garment as to overlie the waist line of the wearer, or a portion thereof, and when tension is applied thereto, a downward pull is exerted by these tension devices in the front steel sections, that is, a pull from the hip sections at the waist toward the lower front steels of the garment, and by this the entire adjustment of the garment is effected. Furthermore, as the lacing devices employed to connect the divided portions of the front steel sections, pass through the lower front portions of the body of the garment, which are free from the front steel sections, those body of the portions of the garment lying between the front steels and the hip sections are also adjusted to position.

I claim as my invention:

1. In an apparel corset, a body member, front steel sections each connected adjacent its front steel to a portion of the body member and extending rearwardly to overlie a portion of the waist line of the wearer and also attached to the body member adjacent the hip section thereof, and means for adjusting the front steel sections, the said means being adjustable to exert a pull from the hip over the waist line to the lower portions of the front steel sections to effect the entire ust-ment of the garment to position on the body of the wearer.

2. In an apparel corset, a corset body member, divided front steel sections each connected adjacent its front steel to an upper portion of the body member and extending rearwardly over a portion of the waist line and also attached to the body member adjacent the hip section thereof, and means for connecting the divided parts of the front steel section, said means being adjustable to exert a pull from the hip sections over portions of the waist line downwardly toward the lower ends of the front steels to effect the entire adjustment of the garment to position on the body of the wearer.

3. In an apparel corset, a corset body member, divided front steel sections each connected adjacent its front steel to an upper portion of the body member and extending rearwardly over a portion of the waist line and also attached to the body member adjacent the hip section thereof, and means for connecting the divided front steel sections and also connecting the lower front edges of the body member to a part of the front steel sections, said means being adjustable to exert a pull from the hip section over a portion of the waist line downwardly toward. the lower ends of the front steel sections and also to maintain the lower front edges of the body member in position relafront steel section also extending rearwardly to overlie a portion of the waist line "and attached to the body member adjacent the hip section thereof, and means for connecting the divided parts of the front steel sections and, also the lower front edges of the body member adjustably to the front steel sections, said means being adjustable to exert a pull from the hip section over a portlon of the waist line downwardly to the lower front portions of the front steel sections to effect the entire adjustment of the garment to position on the body of the wearer;

5. In an apparel corset, a body member, skirts depending therefrom, front steel sections each connected adjacent its front steel to a portion of the body member and extending rearwardly to overlie a portion of the waist line of the wearer and also attached to the body member adjacent the hip section thereof, means for adjusting. the front steel sections, the said means being'adjustable to exert a pull from the hip over the Waist line to the lower portions of the front steel sections to effect the adjustment of the garment to position on the body of the wearer, and means for connecting the forward edges of the skirts over the lower ends of the front steel sections.

6. In an apparel corset, a body member,

skirts depending therefrom, divided front steel sections each permanently connected adjacent its front steel to a front edge portion of the body member for a predetermined distance from the upper edge thereof, downwardly, each front steel section also extending rearwardly to overlie a portion of the waist line and attached to the body member adjacent the hip section thereof, means for connecting the divided parts of the front steel sections and also the lower front edges of the body member adjustably to the front steel sections, said means being adjustable to exert a downward pull from the hip sections over a portion of the waist line toward the lower portions of the front steels, and means for connecting the forward edges of the skirt members over the lower portions of the front steel sections.
