DOUBLE SPOON PLIERS FOR SURGICAL OPERATIONS Patented Nov. 15, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.QOUBLE-SPOQN PLIERS FOR SURGICAL OPERATIONS.
Application filed May 5, 1927, Serial No. 189,019, and in Germany May 25, 1926.
This invention relates to pliers intended for use in connection with certain surgical operations, for instance, and chiefly, as regards abortions, and its object is to prevent practically completely the doing of damage to the mucous membranes, the peritoneum, and the like. For this purpose one of the working legs of the pliers, that are provided with the spoons that are directed towards one an other is elongated a little and its spoon is cap-shaped at its free end and extends with this end or cap over the free end of the other spoon. It is suited to the purpose to give the longer leg convex shape on its outwardly directed surface, as is the case in the constructional form shown. by Way of example on the accompanying drawing on which Figure 1 is a perspective representation of the pliers in closed state, and Figure 2 shows the same pliers in open state.
This constructional form which is intended chiefly for abort-ion operations has practically straight legs 1 and 2, but I wish it to be understood that these legs may also he more or less curved, just as most suited for one or the other case. The essential feature is this that the leg 2 is a little longer than the leg 1, and its spoon 4 has a cap like extension. 5 directedtowards the endface 6 of the spoon 3 of the leg 1, and extending over this face 6, as shown especially in Fig. 1. Another feature, although of secondary importance, but also very suited to the purpose of the pliers is that the outer face of the cap-like extension 5 is convex, as also distinctly shown in the figures of the drawing.
Owing to the above-described new configuration of the working members of the pliers, in the first place the members 4 and 5,
the mucous membranes, as well as the peritoneum, are very efiectively prevented from being damaged by the spoons when these are moved about in the abdominal cavity. This is the object of the invention, as already stated, and it is fully attained by the new means designed therefor.
I claim:
Double-spoon pliers for surgical operatlons, comprising, in combination with the working legs of the pliers and the spoons, an elongation of one of said legs and an extension of the spoon of the same, this exten sion being cap-shaped and having its convex surface directed outwardly, and being in the whole directed to the other spoon and extending over it when the pliers are in closed state, for the purpose set forth;
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
KONRAD STIEGLITZ.
