Description

C. H. CROSS SAFETY CATCH FOR WATCH Foss' Nov. 8, 192 7.
Filed April 2. 1927 nh..liflllllvnuvlhnllllilln atroz @w14 Patented Noir. i827.,
CHARLES H. CROSS, OF CHEYENNE, OKLAHOMA.
SAFETY CATCH WATCH FOBS.
Application led April 2,
This invention relates to devices for preventing watches from being picked from pockets and the specific object of this invention is to provide a device which may be engaged with the fob pocket of a pair of trousers and with the watch fob, and which will act to hold or retain the end of the watch fob in the fob pocket so that the watch will not accidently fall out when the wearer bends over, and cannot be easily drawn fromy the pocket as by a piclrpocliet.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a Ysafety catch constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device in applied position.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one element of the device.
Figure it is a perspective view of the other element.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that my safety device comprises a strip of metal which is formed at its middle with a transversely extending slot 11. This strip is angularly deflected at this slot as at 12 and one end of the strip is formed with a returned portion 13 which is adapted to be engaged over the upper margin of the fob pocket and clamped thereon with consider- 'f able strength, this returned portion being preferably resilient. Coacting with the member 10, which may be considered an anchoring' member, isa spring catch consisting of a metallic strip bent at its middle as at 1a so as to provide two slightly divergent spring portions 15' and 16. The portion 16 is slightly curved outward and away from the portion 15 and is formed withV the tra'nsversely extending ear 17 which is bent over approximately parallel to the face of the upper portion of the part 16, this upper' portion 18 being relatively wide. The portion 15 is also widened at its upper end as at 19 and at its middle is angularly bentat 20. The catch is preferably made of metal as before stated. The ribbon or strap of the fob which is designated 21 is engaged withthe spring catch by the transversely extending ear 17 or in any other suitable manner.
1927. serial No. 180,513.
lVhen it is desired to engage the fob with the pocket, that is, anchor the fob within thev pocket, the spring -catch is forced down through the slot 11 until theangular portion 2O haspassed the upper wall of the slot. The portion 15 will then spring away from the portion 16 and thus the spring catch will be anchored within the strip 10 .and this in turn will be held to the fob pocket. When itis desired to withdraw the spring catch from the member 10,the two lparts 16 and 18 are pressed together and when so pressed to,- gether the springcatch may be withdrawn from the slot 11.
It will be seenv that it is a very easy matter to vwithdraw the spring f catch from lthe anchoring member or engage it therewith when it is understood that the 1 two parts 18 and 19 must be forced together against the resilience of the material from i which this spring catch is made.
I claim p. 1. A safety device for watch fobs comprising an anchoring member adapted to be en- Y gaged with a pocket and having a slot and a catch having means whereby it may be enf gaged with a fob ribbon and formed of resilient material, so formed as to provide two divergent Vportions resiliently urged away tion extending into locking engagement with the anchoring member after the spring catch vhas been inserted 1n the slot of the anchory from each other, one of said portions having a shoulder, which 'when the spring catch is inserted through the slot of the anchoring member will spring outward and lock the spring catch to the anchoring member.
8. A. safety device for watch fobs comprising an anchoring member formed for engagement with thepocliet and having a transversely extending 'slot and a spring catch having means whereby it may beengaged with a fob ribbon and formed of resilient material so formed kas to provide two divergent portions resiliently urged away to provide two relatively' wide portions fromeaeh other, one of said portions having adapted to be pressed together by the fingers a shoulder, which when the spring catch is to thus release the spring catch from its eIk1- l0 inserted through the` slot of the anchoring gagement with the Anchoring member. member. will spring outward and look the In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my spring catch to the anchoring member, lthe signature. p
