T0 all fio/1,0m t 'may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES J. HAUsnN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident or' the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hose-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved hose supporter arranged to securely grip the hosev without danger of tearing the same and to allow of conveniently engaging the grip with the hose or disengaging it therefrom.
In oi'der to accomplish the desired result use is made of a supporting member having a sidewise extending slot beginning at one side of the member and extending to within a short distance of the opposite side of the member, the entrance end of the slot being curved upward. Use is also made of a locking member having an elongated button of a resilient material, the shank of the button fitting the walls of the said slot, and the head of the button extending in front oi the supporting member. Use is further made of a locking catch mounted to swing on the supporting member and adapted to close the curved entrance end of the slot.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings iforming a part of this specification, in which similar characters oi' reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

plainly indicated in Fig. 2. The supporting member A is in the form of a flat plate of metal or like material, and is provided with a sidewise extending slot A. beginning preferably at the right-hand side of the member A and extending sidewise to within a short Y distance of the other side thereof, and the entrance end A2 of the slot Al is curved in an upward direction, as will be readily understood by reference to the drawings, the slot;y
dividing the plate into an upper and a lower portion each having a nose adjacent the open end of said slot, the nose of the lower portion projecting beyond that of the upper portion and trending upwardly.
The locking member B is preferably in the form of a plate of metal or other material, and is provided on its front face with a button of a resilient material and having a head B and a neck or shank B2 adapted to lit the walls of the slot A at the time the button is sidewise engaged with the said slot by way of the entrance opening A2 so that the head B of the button extends in front of the supporting member A.
In using the device the material of the hosel E is `passed over the button of the locking member B and then the button with the hose material extending over the same is sidewise engaged with the slot A', as previously explained, so that the hose material is iirmly clamped in position between the button and the walls of the slot A', as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 3.
It will be noticed that by providing the supporting member A with a slot A and by providing the locking member B with an elongated button it is evident that a very large gripping surface is provided to engage a considerable area of the material of the hose E to securely hold the hose in position and to prevent the hose material from being torn.
If desired the entrance end A2 of the slot A may be closed, and for this purpose use is made of a clip F pivoted on the lower portion of the member A at the entrance opening A2 and adapted to swing upward to close the entrance end A2 by engaging a curved nose A3 formed on the upper portion of the member A adjacent the entrance end A2.l It is understood that the locking clip F is in open position, as shown in Fig. 2, prior to engaging the button of the locking member B with the slot A', and when the parts are engaged the clip F is swung upward into closed position, as shown in Fig. l, to prevent accidental disengagement of the button of the locking member B from the supporting member A.
The slot A may be comparatively lstraight, as shown in Figs. 2 and 6, or it may be curved, as indicated in Fig. 9, it being understood that in either case the button of the locking member B is shaped correspondingly, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 8 and 11.
The hose supporter shown and described is very simple in construction and composed of comparatively few parts which can be readily interlocked to clamp the hose material in place or disengaged from each other whenever it is desired to release the hose. As shown in Fig. 5, it will be noted that the supporting member is curved longitudinally from a vertical plane so that it may conform to the contour of the leg of the wearer; and also by such curvature that the elastic button being substantially straight will on entering the curved slot be bent and tend togrip more firmly the hose and prevent slipping or tearing of the same.
The particular forms illustrated in Figs. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 of the drawing have been made the subject matter of another application, Serial No. 2141, filed January 14, 1915.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: Y
A hosesupporter, comprising a supporting member provided with a slot having its entrance end at one side of the said member and extending from the said entrance end toward the other side of the member, a locking member provided with a sidewise elongated button of a resilient material and adapted to be engaged with the said slot by way of the said entrance end, and a closing clip mounted to swing on the said supporting member and adapted to extend across the said entrance end of the slot to close the latter after the button is in engagement with the said Slot.
