Description

BY W ATTORNEY RB n {-t. w m 7 m 2 .w E /22% .5
1927' s. CAMPBELL ANGLE COCK HOLDER Filed March 22, 1925 Patented Oct. 18, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STERLING H. CAMPBELL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOIIRI, ASSIGNOR TO RAILWAY DEVICES COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
ANGLE-COCK HOLDER.
Application filed March 22, 1923. Serial No. 626,750.
The object of my invention is to provide a one piece angle cock holder which will engage with the hexagonal head of the angle cock on four faces and which may be secured to a support having a horizontal lower face. This I accomplish by so forming and positioning the pocket of the holder that it engages with the head by an upward move: ment in an inclined direction parallel with two of the faces of the head and providing fastening means which may be engaged with the support by a direct upward movement.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one form of angle cock holder made in accordance with my invention, Figure l is a front elevation and Figure 2 is a side view.
5 indicates the angle cock holder which is formed of a single casting and is provided with a recess 6 to receive the train pipe 7. In order that the pocket of the holder may surround four sides or faces of the hexagonal head 8 of the angle cock, I provide a hori zontal flange 9, at one side of which are two inclined flanges 10 and 11, and at the other a single flange 12. It will be evident that with this construction the'holder may be moved into position in the direct-ion indicated by the arrow in Figure 1. To prevent forward movement of the angle cock I provide front flanges 13 and 14 respectively, the former of which projects inwardly from the flanges 10 and 11, and the latter from the flanges 9 and 12.
An angle plate 15, forming the support for the holder, is secured to the end of a car 16 by bolts 17. The plate 15 is provided with holes for the passage of threaded studs 18 formed integrally with the holder 5. Nuts 19 engage with studs to hold the device in position. The studs 18 may be slotted as indicated at 20 to form locking means for the nuts 19. The depth of the recess 6 is preferably equal to the diameter of the train pipe 7 so' that the angle plate 15 will bear against the upper side of the pipe, as shown in Figure 2.
In applying my device to a car the holder is first engaged with the head of the angle cock by an inclined upward movement in the directionindicated by the arrow in Figure 1 the train pipe being sprung away from the supporting plate 15. The pipe and holder are thus allowed to move directly upward together to insert the studs 18 in the holes of the supporting plates. The assembling is completed by applying the nuts 19 and spreading the ends of the studs to lock the nuts.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is: e
In a device of the class described, the comblnation with a horizontal supporting plate adapted to be secured to a car and provided with openings, of a one piece holder and plpe clamp comprising a unitary pocket for an angle cock head and a portion to surround the train pipe, said pocket having two internal faces lying in parallel planes, said faces being adapted to engage opposite peripheral faces of the head'of the angle-cock, and integral threaded studs on the part of the holder surrounding the pipe and projecting at an obtuse angle to the said parallel internal faces of the pocket, said studs passing through the openings in the supporting plate whereby the train pipe may be clamped against said plate.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
STERLING CAMPBELL.
