TRAIN-PIPE CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concemn Be it known that I, WILLIAM MILLnR,.a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Train-Pipe Clamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to train pipe clamps such as areused on railway cars for supporting and holding the train pipe in position.
One object of my invention is to provide a device of the character referred to in which the cooperating members are connected together in such a manner that there is no liability of their becoming separated when the device is opened up to receive the train pipe.
Another object is to provide an inexpensive train pipe clamp of novel construction in which the cooperating members are locked together in such a manner that there is no possibility of the device opening up accidentally, and thus releasing the train 1pc. v
Other objects and desirable features of my invention will be hereinafter pointed out.

Referring to the drawings which illustrate the preferred form of my invention,

The members A and; B are preferably formed from cast metal, and the movable member B is provided at its lower end with an integral hook 3 which is of less width than the semi-circular-shaped portion 1 of said member so that said hook will fit freely between a pair of integral ears 4 on the member A that carry a pin 5 which the hook 3 partly surrounds. To eliminate the possibility of the members A and B becoming detached when the clamp is opened up to receive the pipe I have provided the hook on the member B with an extension 3 that is adapted to be bent around the pin 5 on the member A, from the position shown in broken lines in .Fig. 1 into the position shown in full lines in said figure, after said members have been assembled. The extension 3 on said hook is so proportioned that the space between the end of same and the portion of the member B directly opposite said extension is less than the diameter of the pin 5. Consequently, after the extension 3 has been bent around the pin 5, the lower ends of the members A- and B will be securely locked together in such a manner that there is no possibility of the movable member dropping OK when it is swung downwardly to receive the pipe C. A pipe clamp of the construction above-described is inexpensive to manufacture and assemble, and it is just as eflicient as a pipe clamp in which a pintle or removable pivot pm is inserted through cotiperating perforated ears on. the two members of the clamp for after the extension 3 on the hook 3 has been bent over into its final positlon the lower ends of the members A and Bare permanently hinged together.
The upper or free end of the movable member of the clamp is preferably locked in position by means of a key that passes through a lug on one member of the clamp that projects through an opening in the other member of the clamp. In the form of my invention shown in Fig. 1, the stationary member A of the clamp is provided with a laterally projecting lug 6 that passes through an opening 7 in the upper end of the movable member B of the clamp, and a key, preferably a wedge-shaped cotter key 8, is inserted in an opening 9 in said lug so as'to extend cross-wise of the movable member B and thus prevent it from moving outwardly away from the stationary member A of the clamp. Having thus described my invention, 'what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v
1. A combined angle cock and train'pipe clamp comprising two members hin ed together at one end and provided with 00- projecting forwardly from said portions for engaging the head of the angle cook, a laterally projecting p'art on one member that passes through an opening in the othermemher at a point above the train pipe, and a removable key in said laterally projecting part that extends transversely across the member through which the part projects I I A combined angle cock and tram piepe clamp comprising two cast metal mem rs provided with cooperating pipe-engagmg ortions and integral portions for embracmg the head of an angle cock, an integral hook on one of said members that engages a pin' formed integral with the other member, an extension on said hook that is adapted to be bent over said in so as to lock said members together, an means that prevent the clamp from opening.
