Description

Oct. 4, 1927;
I J. W. JONES SUSPENDER BUCKLE Filed Jan. 22. 1927 Jazz ' ATTORNEY Patented Get. 4, 1927.
JOHN WILLIAM JONES, Oli SMACKOVER, ARKANSAS.
SUSPENDER BUCKLE.
Application filed January 22, 1927. Serial No. 162,860.
This invention has particular relation to fastening means for use upon suspenders and the like.
An object of the invention comprehends spring locking members disposed within openings in the suspender and garment.
Another object of the invention contemplates a loop member slidably mounting the fastening means to effect adjustment.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further consists of the following noved features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended c aims.
I n the drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a garu'zent with the invention applied.
Figure 2 is a perspective of the invention per se.
Figure 8 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the invention while in use.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a suspender or shoulder strap disposed in juXta-position to a portion of agarment 11 which may be pants, overalls and the like. The adjacent portions of the shoulder strap or suspender and garment are provided with registering button holes 12. The suspender or shoulder strap is provided with a multiplicity of spaced aligned button holes, not shown, to effect the usual adjustment as made by'buttons and various forms of sliding loop members carried upon the shoulder strap or suspender.
In carrying out the invention I provide a singular length of spring wire provided with an elongated offset loop portion or sleeve 13 adapted to receive the shoulder strap or suspender 10. Spaced parallel arms 14: depend from said loop immediately behind the shoulder strap or suspender.
Half looped portions 15 are provided upon the outer sides and at appropriate points in the lengths of said arms. Offset and forwardly projected legs 16 upon the end portions of the half loops 15 are bent upon themselves to provide enlarged portions 17 thereby strengthening the extremities thereof.
In the application of the invention the loop 13 receives and guides the attaching ends of the shoulder straps or suspenders. The arms 14 lie flush with the undersides thereof. The legs 16 and enlarged portions 17 carried thereby are then projected through a desired button hole in the suspender or shoulder strap 10. The half loops 15 are then engaged upon the looped ends thereof by the thumb and the index fingers and compressed to slide one of the enlarged end portions 17 behind a companion one. thus exposing the width of one enlarged portion which may be' readily projected through the button hole 11. The half loop portion are'then released and the spring retlexing action of the arms 14 will laterally thrust the enlarged portions 17 outwardlv to norma active position and engagement with app opriate portions of the garment upon the opposed sides of the button hole therein. The shoulder strap and garment are thus held against displacement. A sim ilar p ocess is followed in disengaging the shoulder straps or suspenders from the garments. In the instance of the invention being constructed of a stamped metal plate the shoulder strap or suspender could be twisted laterally of the garment-to swing the en arged portion 17 in a vertical plane to permit their removal from the button hole in the garment.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is here- 'in reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a suspender buckle consisting of a length of wire bent intermediately upon itself to provide a guide loop for the suspender, spaced parallel arms depending from the loop, halfloop portions carried at appropriate points in the lengths of said arms, and enlarged portions offset and laterally projected from the half-loops adapted for reception within registering button holes in the suspender. and garment.
2. A suspender buckle comprising a length of wire bent intermediately upon itif 'i E T J self to provide an ofise't guide 100p reeeivbe positioned one behind the other upon ing the suspender, arms depending from the compression of the half looped portions to loop, half-loop portions provided at approposition the enlarged portions Within regis- 15 priate points in the length of the arms, uptering button holes in the suspender and wardly projecting legs upon the ends of the adjacent portion of a garment.
half-loops, and enlarged portions laterally In testimony whereof I aflixmy signature. ofl'set upon the ends of the legs adapted to JOHN WM. JONES.
