To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, PER GUST JOHNSON and CARL VILIIELM Mamrsrrnorr, citizens of the United States, and residents, respec tively, of Kansas City, yandotte County, Kansas, and Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Suspender Strap and Belt Support, of which the following is a description, referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

In our. invention we provide a sheet metal clip preferably of spring steel and so arranged and fabricated. as to best cooperate with thewaist band of a pair of trousers or other garment and to which a belt or pair of suspenders may be readily attached for their customary usages; our clip is of such a character as to be readily attached and removed without injury to the garment or fabric with which it is employed and entirely eliminates the necessity of suspender buttons and belt straps customarily em- Such further advantages will be disclosed in the description of the drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a front view of our metallic clip. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view taken along the line AB, Fig. 1. and shows the special embossed holes receiving the preferred type of buttons for clamping the clip to the fabric of the pants or other garment. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of our device seen in Figs. 1 and 2 and indicat ing the co-relation of the buttons as employed in conjunction with'the special type of holes in the device. Fig. 4 is a front view showing the clips disclosed in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 as employed in combination with a pair of pants and serving as belt straps and also as buttons for the attachment of suspenders. Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.-

Referring to the drawings: Our suspender stra and belt support is preferably fabricated rom spring steel or similar material as a clip element bent at 2 to form a U-shaped member. The base of the U- portion 2 is flared, preferably, to form curved projecting portions 3, 3. portion 2; this crimp 4 serves to distinguish between the suspender strap portion and the belt receiving portion as will be later explained; this crimp 4 however may be omitted if so desired. The lower extremity of the outer element of the clip is crimped or bent inwardly at 5 to a substantial contact with the rear element of the clip.

On the rear portion of the clip are seen perforations 6 and 6 the metal being embossed at said holes as clearly disclosed in Fig. 2. The metal is split in both directions from said holes or as indicated at 7 and 7", said split portions terminating in holes 8', 8", 8 and 8 as disclosed thus forming flexible apertures for receiving the heads of the metallic buttons 9 and 9". The heads of the buttons are enlarged somewhat, in manner similar to that of a plain collar button, so that after the heads have sprung through the slitted portions 767 and 7-67, the embossed portions (l4, 14) around the openings 6 and 6 spring back and grasp below the heads of the studs of the buttons. The fabric 10 is securely secured between the embossed base of the buttons and the back of the clip, the embossed portions 15 closely conforming to the embossed portions 1 1-, Fig. 2.

In Fig. 4, the button-hole or eye portions of the suspenders 13 receive the clip por tions 5 and the suspender ends are received within the pocket intermediate the crimp 4 and the base 2. In Fig. 2 it will be noted that the space is enlarged over the space intermediate the base of the crimp 4 and the embossed portion 14; the suspender elements can freely move within this space and the curved projecting parts 3, 3 minimize wear thereon. The belt 12 is passed through the portion of the clips included between the loop or crimp 4 and the base crimp 5. The crimp 5 prevents the belt slipping down and there is ample space for the belt to slide back and forth between the crimps 4 and 5.

In Fig. 4 the buttons are shown penetrating the fabric from the rear of the waist band to engage with the clips as attached to the front side of the pants 10.

It is obvious that modifications may be employed of our invention Without departing from the scope of the appended claim.

what we now claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

As an article of manufacture, a Suspender strap and belt support, comprising a substantially U-shaped member, the legs of which are connected by a curved portion having outwardly and upwardly flaring side extensions, one leg only having perforations for attachment to a garment, the

10 other leg being crimped intermediate its ends to form a narrow passage to a button hole tab receiving space above said crimp, and a second crimp near the outer extremity of said leg, substantially contact ing with the other leg, to form a belt re ceiving space between said legs and said crlmps.
