Description

May 19, '1925.
E. P. DUFFY HOSE 'SUPPORTER' Original F'iled July 5, 1917 GHQ: 11 M 0 atented May 19, 1925,
UNITED STATES ELWOOID P. DUFFY, OF ARVADA, COLORADO.
Rosa SUPPORTER.
Substitute for application Serial No. 178,619, filed July 5, 1917. This application filed Serial No. 624,751.
: '0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ELwooD P. DUFFY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arvada, in the county of Jefferson and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Hose Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a hose supporter, and the invention aims to provide a structure of this kind, which, being assembled with a corset, will support the hose without tearing the same and without causing discomfort to the wearer, the parts of the supporter adjusting themselves readily and automatically to the configuration of the body of the wearer in all positions. 4
it is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
This application is a substitute for my application No. 178,619, filed July 5, 1917.
"With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 shows an elevation taken partly from the front and partly from the side of a portion of a corset, whereunto the device forming the subject matter of this application has been applied;
Figure 2 is a section on the'line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional detail showing the guides covered with cloth.
In thedrawings there is shown a part of a corset, the side portions of which are denoted by the numerals 1 and 2, the same being connected at the front of the corset, detachably, by any suitable fastening means 3 of any desired kind.
The numeral 4 denotes a pair of elastic straps, the upper ends of which are secured as shown at 5 to the lower edge of the side 1 in circumferentially spaced relation, one of the straps 4 preferably being located close to the vertical front edge of the March 1:, 192a;
side 1, and the other of the straps 4 being located at some distance from the said edge.
in which is mount sliding movement, a
means 11 of any desired sort, such, for instance, as the well-known clips, shown in the drawings. Mounted to reciprocate on the flexible element 10 between the guides S) is a rider 12 to which is pivoted an eye 14-.
which, in its turn, is pivoted to hose-en gaging means 15.
It 'will be understood that the structure hereinbefore described, and stated to be mounted on the side 1, is duplicated on the side 2, the numeral 16 in Figure l markin generally, a device similar to that alluded to above, but assembled with the side 2'.
The elastic straps 4 yield responsive to the movements of the body of the wearer,
and the effective length of each strap may be varied by adjusting the size of the loops 6 through the medium of the cam buckles 7. The flexible element 10 is adapted to slide endwise in the guides 9, and the rider 12 with its hose-en aging means 15 is adapted to slide longitudinally of the flexible element 10, between the guides 9. The flexible element 10 can bow downwardly to any desired extent, between the guides 9, and when the hose-engaging means 11 and 15 are engaged with the upper edge of a stocking, the stocking will be firmly and adequately supported, but so supported that necessary adjustments will take place automatically, the strain on the stocking being reduced to a minimum, and there being practically no possibility of tearing or damaging the stocking. The supporters on the respective sides of the corset work independently of each other, and when the wearer sits down the cords 10 will move longitudinally forward relieving the strain onthe clips 11 fastened to the front of the stocking, there being only two main guides for theicords to work through. Moreover by providing longitudinally slidable cords mounted in the two main slides and the elastic straps for sugporting the guides 'ves less strain ont e stocking and will a solutely prevent tear- 7 ing of the stocking top in any position of the body.
If desired, the guides 9 may be covered with cloth 25 as indicated in Figure 3, to prevent the metal from coming into contact with the body of the wearer. I
What is claimed is:-- The combination with a corsetof de-' j' pendin elastic straps attached to the lower edge 0 the corset near the front and at a point spaced rearwardly therefrom on both sides of the corset, guides carried, by the lower ends of said straps, two flexible elements freely slidable longitudinally in said guides and arranged at opposite sides of the corset, hose enga ing means carried by' ,ture in the presence of two witnesses.
