UNITED sTAri-:s
HENRY F. ZAHNERQ OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
Doon.
Application led J'une 30, 1924. Serial No. 723,208.
To all whom t may] cov-wem:
Be it known that I, HENRY `F. ZAHNER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Doors; and I do declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompany:- ing drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to metallic doors and the primary object of the invention is to construct a door with a finish panel on the front, the novelty residing in the manner in which the panel is secured to the door so that the connecting 'oint or fastening means will not be visible. he. invention includes a door and a facing panel-and the novel manner by which they are fastened together will be apparent by reference to the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective viewrof a compartmental device to which my invention is applied.
Fig. door with the 'facing panel attached t ereto.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the door and the facing panel.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the door and Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view through a slightly modified form of door and facing panel.
The compartmental device 1 may be usedy for an purpose such as an oven, warming table, in or the like and pivotally secured to the side walls thereof is a door having arms`2 and 3 of sheet metal with offset portions 4 and 5 to which are bolted the offset; inturned ends or flanges 6 and 7 o-f the door panel 8. 'The ends of the door panel are bent back upon themselves as at 9 and 10 and then outwardly to form the flanges 6 and 7 which are secured to the offset portions 4 and 5 by the bolts '11.
V2 is a sectional viewthrou h theA A fanciful finish panel 12 is provided, the main body of the panel being oii'set with respect to the end portions 13 and 14 which are bent around the bent back ends 9 and 10 of the'door panel 8. The ends 13 and 14 are hook shaped in cross section as indicated at 15 and 16 so that they tightly embrace the ends 13 and 14 whereby the finish panel 12 is held in place.
It will be apparent of course that the fastening means will not be visible from the front of the door so a very neat appearing door is provided.
In Fig. 5 I have shown substantially the same construction except that the door panel or front 8 is integral with the arms, one of the arms 2 being shown. The panel 12 however is secured in identically the same way as it is in the illustrated embodiment shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4. In any event'the door panel will be secured .to its hinge arm intermediate the ends of the panel so that the panel will have projecting 'edges over which the edges of the finish panel can be bent to form the securing means between the finish panel and the door panel. l
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. A door comprising a door panel, hinge arms inset from the edges of the panel so that,
the panel has projecting edges"and a finish panel having its edge bent back around projecting edges of the door panel.
2. AA door comprising a panel, hinge arms projecting rearwardly from the panel, the arms being spaced from the ends of the panel and a finish panel having its edges bent over and around the edges of the door panel.
vHENRY F. ZAHNER.
