Guss-WASHING BASKET.
Application led January 14, 1922. Serial No. 529,299.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, vJOHN J. OWENS, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Blacksburg, in the county of Montgomery and State. of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in GlasslVashing Baskets; and I do hereby 'declare the following to -be a full, 'clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in thgJ art to which it appertains to make and use theI same This invention relates to new and useful improvements in washing machines and more particularly to what will be k-nown as .a washing basket, the main object of the present invention being the-provision of a' basket or receptacle for the purpose of `cona like fcharacter purposes.
Anotherobject of the present invention is the provision of a washing basket wherein a plurality of glasses or similar'articles may' be placed therein and so arranged thatwhen the basket is dipped into the washing vorA sterilizing fluid, the contents of the basket may be quickly and readily cleansedor sterilized and the articles contained within the =basket are so arranged that the fluid in lwhich they are submerged will reach every part of each individual article,` thus assuring of the proper cleansing or sterilizing Aof each article. f A further object of the" invention is the provision of aglass washing basket so constructed vand arranged and provided with suspension means whereby the basket can be. used in connection Witha welliknown', washing machine in use at the presenttime and wherein the glasses or other articles can be quickly and readily placed in position for washing and sterilizing,
With the above and other objects in view theinvention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangef ment of parts hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claim and shown Figurekl is a frogtelevation of a washing, basket constructedin accordance with' my invention;
, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and
Fig. 3is a top plan view.
sIn carrying out the invention, the main body of the basket is formefd first by providing the rectangular end portions 1, said end portions being formed of bars or strips ofmetal preferably cylindrical and bent to form the rectangular frames. These frames are suitably connected by means of diagonally extending wire braces 2 and 3 arranged .in plurality throughout the side .and end walls of the basket. It will be noted that the bracing wires 2 are fastened at one end to one ofsaid frame members and extend in a diagonal line to the other of said frame members and secured thereto. The bracing wires 3 aresecured in the same manner rbut extend on a diagonal line in a direction op- 1s also called to'the fact that these brace rods C2 and 3 while extending between, the two tainfing a plurality of glasses and articles of frame members lare alternatelyextended-f over and under the opposing rods, the brace rods 2 being extended over and`under alternate rods 3so as to form a continuous mesh thrughout the side and end portions of the single strip of metal bent lupon itself upon opposite sides of the center to form the pro# jections 5 which normally rest, when in a closed position, against one side portion of one of the frames 1. vThe ends ofthe strip are `then-extended in parallel relation and provided kwith loops adapted to embrace the o posite'side portion of the frame 1..
where y vthe. frame 7 of the cover will `be 1lingedly connected to tl1e,bo dy of the baset. s 'i 6 by meansof a transverse 'connecting rod 8,V the ends of ,which are .bent'- upon themselves to forinloops 9 embracing the side portions of the frame 7' adjacent the loops 6 whereby to provide a substantially rec-` tangular frame for the cover ofthe basket.
In order to provide means 'for forming 'a Icomplete cover, suitable double strands l0 The ends of thev strip .which form the t ,frame 7 are-.connected adjacent the loops of heavy wire are extended transversely 'befl tween the side portions of the frame. 7
formed by the. ends of the first. rod and the l connecting rod 8. These double strands are 1,10
'lo l inte-rengaged with eachother at' intervals 4so as to provide a woven center for the top means of a rod 11, the ends of which are looped uponv the frames 1 While the intermediate portion vthereof is formed into an.
In order to provide for proper closing for the cover member, a plate to the cover member and provided with a loop`1`6 and a has 17 is pivotally connected with one/of the frames 1 and adapted to engage over the loop 16 While a hook member 1S is engaged With the loop 16 to retain the hasp in position and hold the cover member in a normally closed position.
As illustrated in the drawings, two layers of glasses or other similar articles may be arranged within the basket, said layers being divided by means vof the partition plate 19, said plate .having a plurality of cles are. so arranged Within 15 is secured.
lation of the water between the two halves of the basket.
.From the above taken-in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be read 'ily apparent that I have provided an i1n' provedbasket or receptacle for the purpose of containing glasses or v similar articles whereby the basket or receptacle may be suspended and submerged into a washing or sterilizing fluid and the fluid reach all parts of each individual article. The -artithe receptacle or basket whereby to permit a thorough circulation of the fluid within the basket. so that the Washing or sterilizing operation may be readily carried out. The device as a whole can be used individually or with a well known make of dish Washing machine in use at the present time. A'
I claim:
The combination with a basket, of a top or cover portion adapted to close one side of the basket when in a normal position, and being hingedly connected to the basketat one edge, 'of means for snspending the basket, comprising a bail member arranged at one endof thebasket, the
said bail member provided with a roller adapted to be -engaged a supporting means.
In testimony WhereofI lafiix my signature.
