Description

Jan, .6,
c. 1.. MARCUS VANITY CASE Filed May 21; 1923 IN VEN TOR U/Mezfi l/q/va M56006 I A TORNE Y Patented Jan. 6, 1925.
CHARLES LIONEL MARCUS, on NEW YORK, 1v. Y.
VANITY CASE.
I Applicationfiled May 21, 1923. Serial No. 640,296.
More particularly it is directed to a vanity case of the character described in my 00-- pending application Serial No. 625,902, filed in the United States Patent ()fiice on the 17th day of March 1923, in which provision is made, however, for holding a plurality of cosmetics.
One object of the invention isto provide: a device of the character described which shall be exceedingly simple in construction, neat in appearance, and highly efficient for the purposes described.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
Certain features herein shown and described are shown, described and-claimed in my co-pending application tioned and accordingly are not claimed herein.
lVith the above exception the invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplilied in the construction hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a vanity case embodying the invention shown in open position with the powder puff removed;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 22 of F ig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the insert for shielding the contents of the container.
Referring in detail tothe drawing, the vanity case there shown comprises a. container or receptacle member 10 in which are held a plurality of cosmetics. In the form shown in the'drawing, the container is adapted for two cosmetics, one a compact face powder 11 and the other a rouge aforemen-v 12, preferably also in compact form. 13
indicates the cover member for the con-- tainer which may be spring-hinged toLt-he container or otherwise suitably secured thereto so as to snugly close upon the container and cover the same. On the interior face of the cover is held a mirror 15.
The cosmetics such as 11 and 12 are firm ly held, as by cement or glue or other suitable'means, to the bottom of the containerand are preferably of a height somewhat less than the height of the container. For shielding the interior of the container so as to prevent dirt or other foreignmatter from entering the portion'thereof occupied by the cosmetics, I provide a guard member 16 preferably of light sheet material such as celluloid or the like material, shaped so as to provide a top face 17 of dimensions substantially equal to, the interior dimensions of the container so as to completely cover the contents thereof, and having side and endportions 18, 19, clownturned from said face members and substantially at right angles thereto so as to fit snugly'on the interior of the container against the corresponding awalls thereof. For making the cosmetics accessible through said guard member, the face portion 16 is cut out or recessed as at 20, 21, thus permitting the corresponding cosmetic 11, 12 to show through said openings, and be reached therethrough.
In the form shown in the drawing, the opening 20 is larger than the opening 21 since a larger portion of the face powder is preferably to be made accessible. Also, the opening 20 is made triangular so as to permit a neat construction compatible, however, with exposing a sufficiently large surface of the compact face powder. The material of the face members 16 is depressed adjacent the opening 20 so as to extend downwardly and obliquely to the compact face powder and abut thereagainst thus forming a triangular well with the top of the compact face powder at the bottom of the well, and the depressed portions 20* of the opening 20 as the walls thereof. Similarly, the material about the opening 21 is'depressed angularly as at 21 so as to provide a conic-ally shaped well in the same manner.
A powder puff 22 of such shape and dimensions as to fit into the opening 20:, and a powder puff 23 of such dimensions as to fit into the opening 21 are provided for each of the cosmetics.
It Will thus be seen that there is provided a device in Which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is Well adapted to meet the condi tions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention and as Various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shovvn'in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and *desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In 'a vanity case of the character described, a 'container, a cover for said container and a guard member disposed and fitted to occupy the entire container, said guard member comprising a shaped piece of light material having a top face extending to the Walls of the container, and a plurality of openings in said top face depressed therefrom adapted to hold cosmetics, the edges oi "said openings being chamfered.
2. In a vanity case, a container, a cover for said container, a plurality of cosmetics held in said container, and a guard m'emberfitted around the cosi'n'etic's, said guard member having openings therein Wherethrough the cosmetics are made accessible, the edges of said openings being chamfered to facilitate reaching the cosmetics.
8. In a vanity case, a container, a cover tor the container, a plurality of cosmetics held in the container, "a powder put? for each cosmetic, and a guard'member fitted around the cosmetics and the powder puiis, said guard member having openings therein Wherethrough the cosmetics are made accesslble, the edges of sa1d opemngs being chamfered to facilitate reaching the cosmetics and to form holders for said pufis whereby the latter when in place effect a closure for said openings.
4. In a vanity case, a rectangular con tainer, a cover for said container in com bination With a guard member disposed and fitted to occupy the entire container, said guard member having a triangular shaped opening of substantially half the container space, tWo sides of the triangular opening extending parallel to tWo adjacent sides of the container and a circular opening in the adjacent portion of said member, said openings being adapted to hold cosmetics.
In a vanity case, a rectangular container, a cover for said container and a guard member disposed and fitted to occupy the critic container, said guard member having atriangular shaped opening of substantially half. the container space and a circular opening in the adjacent portion thereof adapted to hold cosmetics, the edges of said opening being 'chamfere'd to facilitate reaching the cosmetics and adapted to form a holder for the powder puffs whereby the latter When in place effect a closure for said openings.
,6. In a vanity case of the character described, a rectangular container, a cover for said container, and a guard member disposed and fitted to occupy the entire container, said guard member comprising a shaped piece of light material having a top face extending to the Walls of the container and having a triangular and circular opening, adapted to hold cosmetics, two sides of said triangular opening extending parallel to two adjacent sides of said guard member.
' Tntestim'o'ny whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES LIONEL MARCUS.
