rnonoeaarrr.
Original application filed December 29, 1922 Serial No. 609,604. Divided and this application filed February, 20, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, LUIS nn FLonnz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pomfret, in the county of IVyndham and State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Phonographs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to phonographs and has particular reference to improved turn tables used thereon, and is a division of my copending application Ser. No. 609,604 filed Dec. 29, 1922 forphoiiographs.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a portable phonograph having a turntable soconstructed as to permit easy access to the interior of said phonograph, for the purpose of repair, oiling or the like.
Other objects and advantages of this in vention will be apparent from the following description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which similar characters of reference designate similar parts in the several views;
In the drawings: 7 V
Figure 1 shows a side elevation partly in section of a phonograph embodying my invention; and I V Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan View of a phonograph embodying my invention.
Referring more particularly to the draw 'ings, numeral 1 describes generally a phonograph case which has associated therewith a cover 2, a tone arm 3, asound box 4, a spring motor 5, the latter mounted in a frame 6, all of which are of any well known construction. Associated with the spring motor 5 and operatively connected therewith by suit able gearing 7, is a driven spindle 8 having a reduced upper end 9, the lower portion of which forms a seat 10.
Mounted on the reduced end 9 of the spindle 8 by any suitable means, such as a ing which engages in a keyway or the like, is an element 11 which element is positioned substantially at right angles to the axis of rotation of the spindle 8, as shown in Fig. 1, the element 11 is supported by a boss or hearing 12, and said element extends a short distance to one side of the spindle (to the left as shown in this figure) forming an ex tension 11' and extends to the right of the spindle to a point adjacent to the periphery of a turntable 13. At this end, a hinge 14 is provided which hinge is also attached to the turntable 13. The turntable. is of con- Serial No. 634,070.
ventional. construction with the exception that the aperture 15, in the center thereof, is larger thanis customary and larger than the reduced end 9 of the spindle 8. Secured to the under side of the turntable is a spring catch 16 which is adapted to cooperate with the extension 11 to hold the turntable 13 in its playing position; a boss 17, surrounding the aperture in the turntable 13, limiting the downward movement of said turntable in an obvious manner.
From the above description it will be apparent that should it be desired. to obtain access to the interior of the phonograph for the purposes of adjustment or repair, it is only necessary to swing the turntable on its hinge 14:, raising it to approximately the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1 or to any other position allowed by the type of hinge, or pivot,-used.
It is believed that the operation of the invention will be fully apparent to those skilled in the art from the above description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings but I desire it understood that, while the drawings illustrate the preferred embodiment of the invention, various changes may be made such as fall within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a phonograph having a motor, a spindle, and a turntable, means secured to said spindle for supporting and rotating said turntable, said turntable being pivotally connected to said means at a point distant from the center of said table in such a manner that said table may be swung on said pivot whereby the interior of the phonograph is exposed.
2. In a phonograph a spindle, a member rotatable about said spindle, a table rotatable about said spindle, means connecting said member and said table to allow the latter to swing away from the spindle and means secured to said table and engaging the free end of said member for holding said table to said member in operative position.
3. In a phonograph a turn table spindle, a member attached thereto and adapted to rotate therewith and a turntable hingedly mounted on said member and adapted to be swung to and arrested in a position at right angles to the axis of the spindle.
H ll
4c. In a' pl1onogrmp11 it turntablespindle, an elongated member mountedu-po-m the spindle and a turntable hingedly mounted adjacent one extremity o-f-sa-iclmember at- 2111 elongated member mounted upon the spindle, a turntable hlngedly mounted aidjacent one end of the member, and adapted to" be fo'l'de'u down upon the same to -bring the turntable int-om playing position and meme-canned by the turntable andeo *p0sitioned'as to resilientlyengage the free end of said member and lo'ek the 'turntable in the-playing position. V
6.;Incombination with a phonograph, having a motor, a spindle and a turntable, means secured to saidepindle and turntable and permitting the latter to be swung away name to this specification-this 19th day of February; 1924? j S E FI-JOREZE-
