ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 23, 1924.
MILDRED G. ELLINWOOID, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
RIBBON DRIER FOR LINGERIE.
Application filed December 28, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl, MILDRED Gr. ELLIN- WOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of J ackson and State of Missouri, have invented a.
new and useful Ribbon Drier for Lingerie, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ribbon driers for lingerie, and the object of the invention is to provide a ribbon drier for lingerie upon which moist or wet lingerie straps may be stretched to dry perfectly smooth, thus obviating the use of the conventional sad-iron for pressing the same. I p
I attain these objects and other advantages by means of the combination of parts and the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a plan view of ribbon drier embodying my invention; Figure 2 is a front elevation of the ribbon drier in operative position; Figure is a side elevation of the drier; Figure 4k is a plan view of the clamping device for holding the ribbon in place on the drier, a section of the fabric showing in the clamp and Figure 5 is a cross section of the drier, on the line 55 in Figure 2. i
Similar numerals of reference refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring tothe drawings-the numeral 1 indicates a ribbon drier constructed in accordance with my invention. The device is made of any suitable flexible material having resilient properties to react to a straight position when bent or bowed. The ribbon drier consists of a suitable strip 2, of the material described and of a length adapted for being flexed or bowed to describe substantially the contour of the upper part of the shoulder, so as to receive thereon the conventional straps and loops belonging to lingerie. The flexible strip is shown with its side margins cut away from the ends of the strip to the middle thereof for the purpose of holding the ribbons 8, stretched on the strip and attached to lingerie a, in place, by a clamping member 5, which is slidably mounted on the strip and adapted to slide thereon toward the ends thereof with increasing friction on the edges of the strip. The clamping member, in this instance, is a severed band having a yielding portion 6,
Serial No. 683,241.
which may be pulled outwardly to afford opportunity for the entry of the ribbon to the strip, the yielding of the portion 6, being shown by dotted line in Figure 4.
When lingerie is laundered and it is desired that the ribbon straps or loops thereon shall dry smooth to obviate the use of the sad-iron, the lingerie is rinsed in the usual manner and the ribbon straps then stretched upon the bowed flexible strip and entered into the clamping members 5,and the clamping members moved toward the ends of the strip until the frictional engagement of the clamps with the edges of the strip will assure the holding of the ribbons in place while drying. The reaction of the bowed strip to assume its normal straight position effects a stretching of the ribbons, so that they will dry smooth. The device supporting the pair of ribbon straps is then hung upon a rod 7, or a peg 8, or upon any other suitable supporting medium. When the ribbon is dry the same is removed from the clamps by pulling back the portion 6, and taking out the ribbons.
The method described of drying straps and loops of lingerie saves time and measurably prolongs the usefulness of the fabric. The driermay be used in any environment where pressing means are not available.
Having described my invention what I claim is A ribbon drier for lingerie, consisting of a strip of flexible resilient material having its sides formed tapering from the ends of the strip to the middle thereof, and a plurality of binding members slidably mounted on said strip and adapted to move longitudinally thereof in outward direction with increasing friction and to move inwardly with decreasing friction, said binding members comprising severed bands adapted for receiving said strip and ribbon thereon and having yielding portions adapted for pressing normally on the ribbon to hold the latter in place on the strip.
Dated Kansas City, Missouri, December 24,, 1923.
