Description

J.Z.CASADY WIRE CLOTHESPIN Filed Feb. l5. 1923` Patented pn 8,
inane JESSE Z. CASADY, OF DEAN, IOWA.
WRE CLOTHESPN.
Application filed February 15, 1923.
To UU w71 om t may concern:
Be it known that l, [ineen Z. Cnsnnin a citizen of the United States. residing at Dean. in the county of Appanoose, State of iowa, have invented a new and useful il] ire lothespin; and l do hereby declare the tollowingg` t0 be a full clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to maire and use the same.
This invention relates clothes pins, and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprisinna tl-shaped jaw5 an arm forming a second jaw, centrally disposed within the Usbaped jaw and a line engaging' hooi/L all ot the parts icing; formed 'from a single. piece oi.' spring` wire.
A further object is to provide adjacent the upper end ot' the centrally disposed arm a plurality oit convolutions. or bends, for increasing` the range or springaction oi said arm, thereby allowing a wide range of movement o'lE the arm for clamping thick terial. such tor instance as a blanket.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment oiA the invention may be made within the scope oi"- what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
fin the drawing r- 35 Figure l is a perspective view of the clothes line clamp.
Figure 2 is a side elevation.
Figure 3 is a iront view,
Referring` to the drawing, the numeraly l designates lll-shaped clamping; jaw, the lower end 2 ot which preferably curves backwardly, thereby forming a transversely1 disposed portion 8, with which portion the eye 5 of the centrally disposed spring arm 6 cooperates for clamping and holding its garment with the garment slightly forced through the jaw l, between the arms 7 and 8. The arm 8 extends upwardly and is bent inwardly at 9, thereby forming a horizontally disposed inwardly extending portion Serial No. 619,155.
l0. Portion l0 is bent rearwardly substantially centrally ott the device7 thereby forming a rearwardly extending horizontally disoosed portion l1, which forms a bearing for the loon l2 carried by the arm 6. rlhe portion ll at its rear end terminates in an upwardly and -forwardly extending loop 13 adapted to hook over a conventional forni of clothes line. The upper end oi the arm 6 after being bent to form the loop l2 is bent to form the downwardly extending` loop 1.4i-, which loop is preferably in thesaine plane as the arms 7 and 8, and iorms means .tor allowing;r a maximum range of Flexibility to the arm 6 without bending or :tractun ing the same. lt will be seen that the clamp is torn ed from a sinvfle piece of wire and provided with means whereby mairimnm flexing of the clamping arm in relation to the jaw l allows a relatively thick piece of material or article to be clamped and held.
From the above it will be seen that a clothes clamp is provided, which is Jformed from a single niece or' wire, may be cheaply made, and one wherein an article of clothing' may be sunnorted on a clothes line even if the article is relatively thick.
The invention having been set forth what is cl .lined as new and useful is i clothes line clamp, said clamp comprisinn' a U-shaped jaw having spaced diverging arms, one of said arms having its upper end terminating in an inwardly rearwardly and upwardlv extending arm, the upper end ot the other arm ot the U-shaped jaw terminating in S shaped loop in the same plane as the arrn. the end of Said S shaped loop extending: over the rearwardly extending' portion carried by the other arm and terminating in downwardly extending clamping arm.
ln testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JESSE Z. CASADY.
