Application filed-April 14,
Toa-ZZ affront-Money concern: r
Be it known that I, A1\ nn.&s; RUsINsKI, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fenton, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have inventedcer- 'iiain new and useful Improvements in Boilers. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in boilers and has for one of its objects to' provide a boiler with a false bottom positioned upwardly from the usual bottom wall of the boiler to space articles placed in theboiler such as clothing or the like from the bottom wall and permitting .a thorough circulation of water or other fluid through the clothing.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a boiler having a false bottom formed of hinged sections with means associated with the false bottom to elevate or remove the same from a boiler and permitting the sections of the hinged false bottom to be moved to a partially collapsed position for retaining supported articles thereon and effecting a partial squeezing operation upon the clothing to eliminate excess water or the like.
It is a further object of the invention to 1 provide lifting means for the false bottom so constructed to permit the latter to be supported in an elevated position within the boiler to allow articles, such as clothing resting thereon to partially drain.
With the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described. shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of a boiler constructed in accord ance with the present invention, the false bottom and lifting means therefor being illustrated as operatively positioned within the boiler,
Figure 2 is a top plan view or the boiler showing the false bottom and the hinged sections thereof,
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the false bottom removed from the boiler and in 1923. Serial No. 6352,0731
a partially collapsed position illustrated as supporting a batch of clothes,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary elevational view of the inner end of the boiler wall showing the manner of supporting the lift ingmeans for the false bottom.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view taken on line V -V of Fig. f, and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of one of the lifting devices associated with each end of the false bottom.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, and particularly to Fig. 1 there is illustrated a boiler of the usual type having a bottom wall 1, a side wall 2 and a cover wall 3 with the usual depending flange l positioned inwardly of the side wall 2 of the boiler and the horizontal outwardly directed flange 5 at the edge thereof that is supported upon the upper edge of the side wall 2. i
The false bottom disposed within the boiler is preferably formed of three sections, a central section 6 and end sections 7. the sections 6 and 7 being hinged together as at 8 and formed of sheet metal plates perforated over their entire surfaces as at 9, and each section having depending therefrom and secured thereto, angle strips 10 that rest upon the bottom wall 1 of the boiler and space the false bottom therefrom as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
The lifting means for the false bottom embodies a handle rod associated with the outer end of each end section 7, each handle rod having an arm 11 articulated at its lower end as at 12 to the outer end of the adiacent end section 7 of the false bottom and being provided with a plurality of reverse bends intermediate its ends to form a series of hooks 12 for purposes presently to appear. The upper end of the rod 11 is forked as at 13, with the upper ends of the forked portions 13 angularly bent as at 14: and 15 with the horizontally bent portions 14 connected by a hand grip 16. When the false bottom and lifting handles are in their operative position as shown in Fig. 1, the depending flange 4 of the cover 3 is slotted as at i to receive the horizontal portions of the bent ends of the handles to permit proper seating of the cover upon the boiler bogy, this detail being shown in Figs. 4 an 5.
From the above detail description of the device, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, the sections 6 and 7 spacing the clothing such as C, shown in Fig. 3, from the bottom wall 1 of the boiler permitting a complete circulation of the fluid therearound. When it is desired to elevate the false bottom to permit partial draining of the clothing C, the boiler cover 3 is removed and the hand grips 16 are grasped for elevating the false bottom and permitting the desired hook 12 upon the handle rod to engage the upper edge of the side wall 2, complete removal of the false bottom causing the hinged sections 6 and 7 thereof to assume the position shown in Fig. 3 effecting a partial squeezing of the clothing as will be obvious.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as claimed.
What is claimed as new is In a device of the class described, a boiler, a false bottom therefor formed of hinged sections carrying angle strips spacing the same from the boiler bottom, and a lifting handle connected to the outer end of each end section of the false bottom, each lifting handle including a rod articulated to the outer end of an end section of the false bot tom and having a plurality of bends intermediate its ends forming hooks for engaging the upper edge of the boiler, the upper end of each handle rod being forked and a part thereof bent to extend horizontally and a hand grip extending between the horizontal portions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
