Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY NAvRo'r, a citizen of Poland, residing at Heilwood, in the county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler Construction, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the invention 1s the provision of a boiler adapted for employment upon a stove or other heater for boiling clothes, the invention being in the nature of a laundry appliance providing ready means for withdrawing the articles from the boiler without removing the boiling fluid or endangering theoperator from being burned.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clothes or wash boiler in which the articles are positioned in the boiling fluid within the boiler and are readily elevated above the fluid for drainingpurposes as well as removed from the boiler when desired without-the necessity of touching the clothes by the hands of the operator.
The invention will now be fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The laundry appliance comprising my invention includes the provision of a metallic washer boiler 10 of substantially the usual form having a removable cover or lid 11 upon the top thereof and suitable handles 12 at the opposite end of the boiler. A metal tray 13 in the form of a disk is freely positioned within the boiler 10 being of the same general outline as the bottom 14 of the boiler but of slightly less dimensions so that the tray 13 may be readily positioned in and removed from the boiler whenever desired.
Suitable perforations 15 are provided through the tray 13 while three legs 16 are hinged as at 17 beneath the tray 13 adjacent the opposite ends thereof. The legs 16 are adapted to fold inwardly upon the hinges 17 for flat engagement with the bottom of the tray 13 as well as with the boiler bottom 14 upon which the tray is positioned when the device is in use for boiling articles as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.
The mounting of the tray 13 upon the folded legs 16, spaces the tray slightly above 1 the bottom 14 so that the boiling liquid within the boiler 10 will circulate through the perforations 15 and among the clothes or other articles which are upon the tray. The legs 16 are preferably formed of sheet metal bent in a U-shaped cross sectional form as best illustrated in Fig. 7 of the drawings whereby the legs may be easily and cheaply manufactured and which construction also provides ready means for attaching the hinged connections 17 to the upper ends of the legs.
A lever 18 is pivoted substantially centrally at each end of the tray 13 upon suitable lugs 19 for slight swinging movement through slots 20 in the ends of the tray, a hand loop 21 being provided at the upper free end of each of the levers 18. Also, portions 22 of the levers 18 extendbelow the tray 13, each of which has an outwardly projecting angular extension 23 adapted to engage the adjacent end of the boiler 10 for preventing the levers 18 from swinging inwardly of the boiler. Cross arm 24 is carried by the lower end 22 of each lever extending between the adjacent legs 16 and the end of the boiler and whereby the outward swinging movement of the upper portion of the levers 18 by means of the loops 21 serve to swing the legs 16 slightly inwardly beneath the tray 13 as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 5 of the drawings permitting the tray 13 to lower and causing the legs to fold inwardly beneath the tray upon the bottom 14 of the boiler. When the tray is in its normal lowered position, the levers 18 are entirely inclosed within the boiler with the loops 21 adjacent the open upper "end or frame 25 of the boiler so that the loops 21 may be readily grasped and the tray 13 elevated which will permit the legs 16 to'op'en by reason of their own weight to a vertical position for standing uprighton the boiler bottom 14:. The fluid may then drain off of the articles which are upon the tray 13 while the articles may be then engaged by the ends and removed from the boiler, al-
though, the tray 13 with the articles thereon are readily removable from the boiler 10 by means of the end loops 21. Articles to be boiled are readily placed in their boiling position in this manner within the boiler 10 as well as elevated for draining and entire removal from the boiler whenever desired without the necessity of touching the articles,

3. A device of the class described comprising a boiler, a perforated supporting tray freely positioned within the boiler, supportinglegs for thetray pivoted beneath-the opposite end portions of the tray, normally vertical-means for inwardly swinging the legs and for elevating the tray pivoted to the opposite ends of the latter, and extension members normally engaging the ends of the boiler-when said means are vertically positioned for preventing inward -swinging movement of the upper portions of said means.
