DISPLAY STAND.
Application filed March 9, 1925. Serial No. 14,076.
This invention relates to display stands and particularly to devices of this class adapted for use in displaying predetermined articles on a table or other support and more particularly in the supporting and displaying of printed folders, circulars and the like, said stand being so constructed as to support the pamphlets or circulars in position to facilitate the removal of the same from said stand; a further object being to provide a stand of the classspeciiied, con structed from a single piece of cardboard or similar material cut and scored to permit of the formation of the complete stand and to provide means for locking the stand in operative position; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in constructiom eflicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. l is a perspective view of a stand made according to my invention and illustrating the method of its use;
Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view through the stand shown in Fig. .1; and,
Fig. .3 is a plan view of a blank from which the stand is formed.
In Fig. 3 of the drawing, I have shown at 5 a blank from which my improved stand is formed, said blank being cut from a single piece of cardboard or other suitable material and being fashioned to form a central rectangular body 6 having side wings 7 and 8 foldable upon the scored lines 9 into position at right angles tothe body 6 as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. The side wings 7 and 8 are irregular in contour and the upwardly inclined edges 7 and 8 there of form the bottom or leg members of the stand and are in. parallel relation when the stand is folded into position, and the back and top edges of the wings 7 and 8 are curved as shown at 10 to provide artistic lines to said side wings.
The side wings 7 and 8 are cut on U-shaped lines 11 to form elongated back wall members 12 and 13 of the separate wings 7 and 8 respectively, said members being, foldable at right angles to the side wings on the score lines 13?.
Foldably connected with the bottom of the central body 6 on the score line 14 is a bottom member 15 having. foldably connected therewith, on the score line 16, a supplemental back wall member 17 provided with a projecting tongue 18, which when the stand is in operative position projects upwardly and backwardly in back of the wall members 12 and 18 to retain the same in operative position. F'oldably connected with the supplemental back wall 17 on the score line 19 isa lock member 20, the free edge of which is provided adjacent the side portions thereof with notches 21 adapted to engage one of the walls of the apertures formed by removing the members 12 and 13 from the side wings 7 and 8, said lock member being movable into position at right angles to the supplemental back wall 17 and into engagement with other walls of the apertures of said wings as clearly seen in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
In forming my improved stand from the blank shown in F igi 3 of the drawing, the parts 15, 17 and 20 are folded backwardly and upwardly, and the side wings 7 and 8 are folded back, and the wall members 12 and 13 thereof inwardly and forwardly, and in this operation the lock member 20 is placed in the apertures of the wings 7 and 8 and the free edge of said member 20 directed upwardly, after which said member is moved downwardly and the walls of the wings 7 and 8 are placed in the notches 21 in this operation and the downward movement of said member continues until the same is in juxtaposition to or resting upon the bottom walls of said apertures as clearly seen in Fig. 2 of the drawing. In this position of the several parts, the tongue 18 projects upwardly beyond the member 20 and rests upon the rear faces of the wall members 12 and 13 to retain them against backward movement.
The stand, folded or constructed in the manner above set out, is now ready for use and printed folders, or circulars or the like, as indicated in dot and dash lines at 22 in Fig. 1 of the drawing, may be placed in the compartment 23 formed between the central body 6 constituting the frontqwall of the stand and the back walls 12 and 13 including the supplemental back wall 17. It will be and correspondinglysupport the folders or circulars within the stand exhibiting the upper end portions of the folders or circulars through the open en d of the stand above the front wall 6 thereof; Itwill'be understood that any desirable printingmatter on the folders or circulars will be exhibited througlrthestand and the front wall of the stand m y have any desired printing matter or other data thereon thns making .the entire device not only heat n a earan e h nt of utility,in the performanceof the de sired functio'min sup ortingfthe circulars or the like '22 to retain t 1e same always in predetermined position on atable, desk or other support and to facilitate the removal thereof, one by one as desired;
"The invention is primarily designed for the purpose of siipporting pamphlets, cir- .ilars, booklets antl the like on a table or other support insteadof having such articles loosely positioned on a table or support, which results in the disarrangement thereof as commonly experienced in the removal of one circular, folder or the like from a stack or pile. Howeveiyit willibeapparent that I ainnot necessarily limited to thes'pecifi'c use of the invention hereinshown and described, as the stand maybeused for supporting and displaying articles of any jkindpr' classand further it will .be apparent that I am not ecess'arily limited to the specific. details of. construction herein shown and described, and various chan es therein and modifications thereof maybe made, withinfthe scope of theappended claims, witlinut departing from the spirit ofmy invention or sacr fic ingits advantages. w
