carton in which a single cut and crease lined blank of board material is utilized having a bottom wall, front, rear and side walls, and a cover member therefor, an extension panel connected to the front wall and foldable against the back wall to provide a partition separating the carton into upper new blade and lower used blade compartments, an extension member on each of the side walls havin end portions adapted interlockingly to engage each other above the extension panel to hold the folded blank in carton formation, the front wall being apertured for the reception of used blades in the lower compartment.

Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part appear hereinafter.

The invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the f features, properties, and the relation of elements which will be exemplified in the article hereinafter described and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claims.

For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention reference should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a die-cut and scored, or crease lined, blank of, carton material embodied in the invention; and

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the blank folded and held in interlocking carton forming position with the cover opened.

Referring now to Fig. l, the blank illustrated consists of a bottom wall ill with a front wall I l, a rear wall l2, and side walls l3 and I4.

Extending from each of the side walls l3 and I6 are extension members l5 and I6 having end portions with oppositely disposed marginal slots I1 and I8 which interlockingly engage each other to hold the carton in upright position when the carton is formed.

The bottom, front and rear walls are defined by crease lines I9, 20, 2| and 22. The side walls are additionally defined in part by crease lines 23 and 24 which also define the interlocking extension members l5 and I6 where they are connected to the side walls l3 and [4.

The front wall II has an extension panel 25 connected thereto which is foldable toward and against the back wall l2. The panel 25 has a tab 26 which is engageable with an aperture 2'! in the back wall l2 to hold the panel in raised position above the bottom wall to provide a partition separating the carton into upper new blade and lower used blade compartments.

In order to provide the upper compartment a cover member 28 is connected to the rear wall I 2. The area of the cover member is defined in part by score lines 29 and 30. The cover member 28 has a cover tab 3| adapted to be received by a slotted aperture 32 in the top portion ofthe front wall II where the panel 25 is integral therewith. This weakened slotted area acts as a hinge line for the panel 25. The score or crease lines 29 and 30 function as hinge lines in forming and folding the cover 28 into position. The tab 3| is cut out in such a manner as to be received by the aperture 32 in a manner frictionally to engage the front edge of the extension panel 25 and the back of the front wall I l, thereby to hold the cover in closed and substantially locked position.

The end portions of the score or crease lines l9 and 20 provide hinge lines for spacer members 33, 34, 35 and 36. The members 33 and 34 are hinged to the rear wall l2. The members 35 and 36 are hinged to the front wall ll. Each of these members is inwardly foldable between the bottom wall I 0 and the side wall extension members l5 and I6 and is adapted to hold the latter in spaced position above the extension panel 25, and also to hold the side walls in erect position.

It will be observed that the extension members l5 and it, where they immediately overlie the front of the panel 25, are arcuately cut out for the ready removal of new blades from the upper compartment. The aperture 32 communicates with the lower compartment for reception of used blades.

Such a carton or container for razor blades as the one described has many advantages. It has a minimum of cubic displacement necessary for the specified contents, thus allowing more merchandise to be shown in a limited space. The carton is entirely fabricated from a-single blank of die-cut and scored material and held in position without use of glue or adhesive, providing a rigid, light and durable construction. It is safe for consumer use inasmuch as it closes completely and readily can be disposed of when all the contents are used and provides a safe device in which to dispose of used blades in bulk. It is designed so that the consumer can tell how much unused merchandise remains in the carton.

Since certain changes may be made in the above article and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A folding self-locking razor blade utility carton comprising a single cut and crease lined blank having bottom wall, front, rear and side walls, and a cover member, said rear and side walls being of the same height and said front wall being only-approximately half the height of said rear and side walls an extension panel connected along the top edge of said front wall at its ends and foldable against said rear wall to provide a partition separating said carton into upper new blade and lower used blade compartments, an extension member on each of said side walls having end portions adapted interlockingly to engage each other above said extension panel and immediately underlying said cover member and supporting the same to hold said folded blank in carton formation, and said front wall having an aperture below said extension panel and between the connecting ends thereof and the front wall for the reception of used blades into the lower compartment.

2. A folding self-locking razor blade utility carton comprising a single cut and crease lined blank having bottom wall, front, rear and side walls,

and a cover member, said rear and side walls being of the same height and said front wall being only approximately half the height of said rear and side walls an extension panel connected along the top edge of said front wall and at its ends and foldable against said rear wall to provide a partition separating said carton into upper new blade and lower used blade compartments, an extension member on each of said side walls having oppositelydisposed end slots interlockingly engaged with'each other above said extension panel and immediately underlying said cover member and supporting the same to hold said folded blank in carton formation, and said front wall having an aperture below said extension panel and between the connecting ends thereof and the front wall for the reception of used blades into the lower compartment.

A folding self-locking razor blade utility carton comprising a single out and crease lined blank having bottom wall, front, rear and side walls, and a cover member, said rear and side walls being of the same height and said front wall being only approximately half the height of said rear and side walls an extension panel connected along the top edge of said front wall and at its ends and foldable against said rear wall, said panel having a tab engageablewith an aperture in said rear wall and adapted to hold said panel in raised position above said bottom wall to provide a partition below said extension panel and between the connecting ends thereof and the front wall for the ption of used blades into the lower compartment.

A folding self-locking razor blade utility carton comprising a single cut and crease lined blank having bottom wall. front, rear and side walls, and a cover member, said rear and side walls being of the same height and said front wall being only approximately half the height of said rear and side walls an extension panel connected along the top edge of said front wall and at its ends and foldable against said rear wall to provide a partition separating said carton into upper new blade and lower used blade compartments, an extension member on each of said side walls having end portions adapted interlockingly to engage each other above said extension panel and immediately underlying said cover member and supporting the same to hold said folded blank in carton formation and front and rear wall spacer members inwardly foldable between said bottom wall and said side wall extension members attached to said front and rear walls respectively adapted to hold the latter in spaced position above said extension panel and to hold said side walls in upright position, said front wall spacer members being of a height equal to said front wall and said rear wall spacer members being of a height equal to said rear and side walls, which rear wall spacer members have cut-out portions of an area equal to said front wall spacer members and adapted to receive the same, and said front wall having an aperture below said extension panel and between the connecting ends thereof and the front wall for the reception of used blades into the lower compartment.

A folding self-locking razor blade utility carton comprising a single cut and crease lined blank having bottom wall, front, rear and side walls, and a cover member, said rear and side walls being of the same height and said front wall being only approximately half the height of said rear and side walls an extension panel connected along the top edge of said front wall and at its ends and. foldable against said rear wall to provide a partition separating said carton into upper new blade and lower used blade compartments, an extension member on each of said side walls having end portions adapted interlockingly to engage each other above said extension panel and immediately underlying said cover member and supporting the same to hold said folded blank in carton formation, and said front wall having an aperture below said extension panel and between the connecting ends thereof and the front wall for the reception of used blades into the lower compartment, said cover members having a cover lock tab adapted to be received by said aperture and frlctionally engaging said extension panel and said front wall to hold said cover in closed position.
