The parts thus far described may be of usual character and operate in the usual manner to effect the transfer of a filling carrier or bobbin from the hopper to the shuttle during transfer, as more clearly indicated in Fig. 2, it being understood that the shuttle 18 is provided with a bottom opening 19 from which the filling carrier or bobbin previously in the shuttle may be ejected.
Secured to the loom frame and extending rearwardly from the front thereof is a fixed arm 20 the rear end portion of which is formed as a bobbin guide 21 and constituting the front wall of the open throat 22 through which the bobbins pass on their way from the hopper to the shuttle, the opposite wall of the throat being formed in the present instance by a fixed abutment 23.
The transferrer 9 is usually provided with a bobbin tip engaging member, such as 24, so that as the bobbin is transferred from the hopper to the shuttle, both ends will usually be engaged by a part connected to the transferrer.
In accordance with the present invention, when a bobbin is in transferring position opposite the throat 22, the head of the bobbin rests against the fixed bobbin guide 21, and a sliding instrumentality is provided which projects beyond the bobbin engaging face of the guide 21 to insure that the bobbin when in transfering position shall not be displaced therefrom or fall into the throat 1 I a I leading from the hopper.
As shown in the present instance of the invention, the sliding member or instrumentality normally extends into the throat 22 beneath the head of the bobbin in transferring position, and is connected with the transferring mechanism to be withdrawn frontwardly when the transferrer thrusts a bobbin from the hopper through the throat into the shuttle.
In the present instance the sliding member is formed as a pin 25 which passes through an opening 26 formed in the guide 21 and constituting a bearing for the rear end portion of the pin 25. The pin 25 extends frontwardly below the transferrer 9 and at its front end portion is pivotally connected at 27 to the transferrer operating arm 12, the construction being such that when the dog 1-1 is engaged by the hunter 16 on call for replenishment of filling, the transferrer operating arm 12 is moved front- Wardly, as indicated in Fi 2, thereby withdrawing the pin 25 frontwardly from the throat 22 and out of the path of the incoming filling carrier or bobbin.
During normal weaving operation, the sliding member or pin 25 has its rear end portion 27 extending beyond the bobbin engaging face of the guide 21 below the bobbin head in the hopper when the bobbin is in transferring position. On call for replenishment of filling, however, as the transferrer is actuated to transfer a bobbin or filling carrier from the hopper, the sliding member or pin is withdrawn frontwardly out of the throat 22 and frontward of the bobbin engaging face of the guide 21, thereby opening the throat for the free passage of the filling carrier or bobbin from the hopper to the shuttle.
Within the broader aspects of the invention, the pin 25 may be variously contrived, and so also may the bearing for the pin or sliding member 25, but the described construction provides a very simple and yet an effective means for retaining the bobbin in the hopper when it is in transferring position oaposite the throat 22 and for withdrawing it therefrom upon actuation of the transferrer.

1. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper for supporting filling carriers, a bobbin guide and abutment constituting a throat for the passage of a filling carrier during transfer, a guard mounted for sliding movement extending rearwardly from the rear surface of the bobbin guide in a direction transversely across the throat below a filling carrier when in replenishing position to prevent movement of a filling carrier through the throat, and means for connecting the sliding guard with the transferring mechanism to cause the guard to slide frontwardly from its obstructing position in the throat and permit the passage of a filling carrier on replenishment of filling.
2. In an automatic filling replenishing loom comprising a hopper having a throat for the passage of a filling carrier and a transferring mechanism, a guard constituted as a slide which extends rearWardly across the throat beneath a bobbin when in transferring position to obstruct the throat passage and prevent movement of a fillling carrier or bobbin through the throat, and connections betweenthe slide and transferring mechanism operable by the latter to withdraw the slide frontwardly out of the path of the filling carrier as the latter is transferred.

4. In a filling replenishing loom, the com bination of a hopper, a throat leading from the hopper and constituted as a front guide and rear abutment, transferring mechanism, a guard formed as a sliding pin extending from the rear face of the front guide into the throat beneath a filling carrier when in transferring position to prevent downward movement of the filling carrier, and connections between the guard and transferring mechanism for retracting the guard frontwardly relative to the rear face of the guide to clear the tin-oat for the passage of a filling carrier on operation of the transferring mechanism.
5. In a. filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper, a throat leading from the hopper and constituted a front guide and rear abutment, a transferr g mechafroin the rear face of the front guide into and transversely across the throat beneath a filling carrier when in transferring position to prevent downward movement'of a filling carrier, and connections between the guard and transferring mechanism for sliding the guard frontwardly out of the throat to clear the throat for the passage of a filling carrier on operation of the transferring mechanism and said connections ac ing to project the guard transversely across the throat as the transferring mechanism returns to its inoperative position.
6. In an automatic filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper having a,
fixed front bobbin guide against which a bobbin rests when in transferring position, a pin mounted for sliding movement relative to the bobbin guide and normally extending beyond the guiding face of the bobbin guide beneath the head of a bobbin when in transferring position, transferring mechanism, and connections between the sliding pin and transferring mechanism for withdrawing the pin frontwardly as a bobbin is transferred and acting to restore thepin to its original position after the transfer has been effected.
7. In an automatic filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper having a fixed bobbin guide against which the head of a bobbin rests when in replenishing position, a sliding pin extending through a bearing at the bobbin guide and normally projecting rearwardly beyond the guiding face of the guide below the head of the bobbin, a transferrer having an operating arm extending downwardly to which the front end of the sliding pin is connected to cause the sliding pin to be withdrawn from the path of the bobbin as the transferrer is operated to effect the transfer.
8. In an automatic filling replenishing loom, the combination of transferring mechanism, a hopper having a front bobbin guide forming the front wall of a throat, a sliding pin passing through a bearing carried by the bobbin guide and having its front end portion connected to the transferring mechanism to cause the sliding pin to be withdrawn frontwardly out of the throat as a bobbin is thrust through the throat by the transferring mechanism.
