PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS D. GOETTER, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATION KEY, PET-COCK CLEANER,
, Application filed May 21,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that FRANCIS D. Gon'r'rnn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Keys, Pet-Cock Cleaners, and Oil Containers for Automobiles, of which the followlng 1s a specification.
My invention is an improved drain, or test cock key and liquid retaining cup.
The prime object of my invention is to provide a liquid retaining cup upon the end of the key, which will catch any liquid flowing from the test cock.
Another object is to provide a drain cock key and liquid retainer which is simple in construction, and inexpensive to manufacture.
I provide a rod having a socket for turning a pet-cock having a bracket of a single piece of metal formed in an eye around the rod and having its other end riveted to a cup to catch the drip of oil. The socket has a lug on the back to engage the bracket to turn the cup with the rod to empty the oil out of the cup. The socket also has a projecting finger to clean out the outlet of the petcock should it be clogged.
Other objects and advantages will be more fully described in the following detailed description.
In the annexed drawing in which vention is illustrated:
Figure 1 is a side elevation tion.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same. Referring more particularly to the draw my inof my inven- AND OIL CONTAINER FOR AUTOMOBILES.
1924. Serial No. 714,884.
ing, a socket 1 is suitably mounted on the end of the rod 2, which socket is adapted to en- 40 gage and operate the handle of the test cock 3. In certain'types of engines particularly the Ford it is necessary to open a drain cock to determine the amount of oil in the reservoir. The oil flowing from this cock runs upon the floor, and makes it very unsightly, as well as a fire hazard.
To prevent this oil from flowing on the floor, I provide a cup 4 which is secured to a bracket 5 journaled on the rod 2. Thus as the rod 2 is rotated to operate the cock 3, the cup will always remain under said cock to catch the oil. The bracket 5 is preferably formed of a single strip of metal secured at one end to the cup 4, and bent around the rod at the other end. A lug 6 projects rearwardly from the socket 1 and is adapted to engage the bracket 5 so that the cup 4.- may be tilted to drain the same.
The outlet of the cock 3 is frequently clogged with dirt and oil, and to open this outlet I provide a finger 7 rising from the socket 1, and preferably formed integral therewith, which is adapted to enter the said opening and clear it.
Having described my invention, I claim:
A drain cock and oil retainer comprising in combination a rod, a socket on the end of the rod, a bracket journaled on the end of the rod, a cup secured to the bracket, a lug on the rear part of the socket to engage the bracket to dump the cup and a finger projecting upward from the socket to form a cleanout.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FRANCIS D. GOEITER.
