UNITED STATES JOE B. BRADSHAXV, OF STANFORD, KENTUCKY.
ADJUSTABLE STOVEPIIIE,y
Application led November 8, 1924. Serial No. 748,640.
To all whom t may wacom.'
Be it known that I, Jon B. BnnDsHAw, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stanford, in the county of Lincoln and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Stovepipes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others l0 skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The'invention relates to sheet metal pipes such as commonly used for carrying off smoke and gases from a stove or furnace and has for its object to provide a pipe which is adjustable as to dia1neter`so that'the merchant may not be required to provide a stock of pipe of different sizes, thereby saving initial c ost and valuable storage space.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
lVhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirement-s, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a. part of the specification,
Figure l is an elevational view of a length of stove pipe embodying the invention, an intermediate portion being broken away,
Figure 2 is a sectional view on kthe line 2 2 of Figure l, and
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of a joint.
Corresponding and like parts are referred 4e to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
lll)
The numeral l denotes the Ybody of the pipe which consists of sheet metal rolled into cylindrical form in any preferred Way and in accordance with the present invention, an edge portion of the sheet metal blank is bent to provide an inwardly disposed hook 2 and the opposite edge portion has parts inwardly crimped to provide reverse folds 8 and 4 which are spaced about as indicated at 5 to provide an entrance for the'hook 2 whereby opposite edge portions of the blank may-be connected to provide a pipe of the required diameter. It isto be understood that there may be any number of sets of folds 3 and according to the adjustment of the' blank to provide a pipe of required size. As shown, there are three sets of reverse folds, hence the pipe is susceptible of three separate and independentadjustments to provide a pipe of seven inches, six inches or five inches in dia-meter accordingI to the requirement of a customer, such adjustment being effected by engaging the hooked edge 2 of the blank with the required folded portion as will be readily understood.
Vhat is claimed is z- A sheet metal pipe having an edge portion bent to provide an inwardly extending hook, a portion spaced from each edge inwardly crimped and providing reverse foids in spaced relation, said folds being adapted to receive the hook between them so that the latter may engage one of them, and whereby the edgeportion of the pipe opposite to raid hook may iatly engage the inner snr-` face of the adjacent portion of the pipe at a distance from the folds so that. the last. inentioned edge portion and said hook will provide a double seal.
. In testimony whereof I attix my signature.
JOE B. BRADSHAV.
