JAMES CLARENCE TELLER, 0F JEFFERSON, OUTH DAKOTA.
STOVEPIPE AND CHIMNEY CLAIVTLP.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JAMns C. TELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jefferson, in the county of Union and State of South Dakota, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Stovepipe and Chimney Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to means for holding the sections of a stove pipe connected to each other and to a chimney breast.
The object of the invention is to produce a device of this character which shall be in the nature of a bendable, and if desired resilient rod adapted to be inserted through the horizontally disposed connected sections of a stove pipe and into the chimney flue, the said rod having at its inner end a plurality of spaced hooks that engage with the inner wall of the flue, the said rod, after passing through the elbow that connects the vertical line of pipe with the horizontal line, being bent against the inner wall of said elbow, and exerting a pressure between said elbow and the wall of the flue, thus effectively retaining the horizontal line of pipe against the flue, and consequently preventing the said horizontal line of pipe influencing the vertical line of pipe and disconnecting the joints of the latter.
The foregoing objects may be accomplished by a simple construction and arrangement of parts such as is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view through a chimney pipe showing the sections thereof retained in connected condition in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view approximately on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is aperspective view of the hooked or headed end of the improvement.
In the drawing the numeral 1 designates a chimney breast, 2 the pipe opening therein, 3 the pipe sections comprising the horizontal branch of line of a stove pipe, 4: an elbow connected to the outer horizontal pipe section, and 5 the upper pipe section, of the vertical line.
My improvement, as disclosed by the drawings is in the nature of a rod member Specification of Letters Patent,

6 which is of a bendable, and preferably resilient nature. The rod, at its inner end is downturned to provide a hook 7. The rod at its said inner end has secured to the opposite sides thereof outwardly inclined angularly disposed arm 8-8, the said arms at the ends thereof being bent angularly to provide hooks 9--9. The hooked end of the rod, including the arms will, for the sake of convenience hereinafter be referred to as the head of the said rod, and it will be noted that the end hooks on the said head are arranged at an outward angle with respect to the central hook. The rod is inserted through the horizontal line of pipe sections and the hooks on the head are brought into contact with the inner wall of the chimney The rod is then bent upon itself, at its outer end against the inner wall of the elbow, as indicated by the numeral 10. This bent end is designed to bring the elbow into tighter frictional engagement with the outer section of the horizontal line of pipe, and the rod exerts a pressure or tension between the hooks on the head thereof and the said bent outer end, and consequently retaining the horizontal line of pipe positively connected and in proper alinement. In addition to this, the improvement holds the hori zontal line of pipe agaipst sagging in any direction, and as a result the connected vertical sections of the stove pipe can not be influenced by the horizontal line, so that the latter are retained in proper alinement.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is The combination with a stove pipe and chimney, of means for sustaining the horizontal branch of the stove pipe at a right angle with respect to the vertical branch thereof, for retaining the sections of the horizontal branch assembled and for retaining the end pipe section thereof in the flue opening of the chimney, comprising a spring rod that is received in the horizontal branch of the chimney and that has an angle end received in and in contacting engagement with the vertical branch of the stove pipe, and its other end bent angularly to form a hook disposed in contacting relation with the said end section of the horizontal branch and in contacting engagement with the inner Wall of the chimney, said rod having its sides inward of said hooked end formed with opposite angularly directed arms Whose ends are bent to provide hooks parallel with hutdisposed at a right angle to the hooked end of the rod, said arms exerting a tension away from each other and contacting the sides of the said end section of the horizontal branch of the stove pipe and the hooks thereof in 10 contacting engagement with the inner wall of the chimney breast.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
