L. S. MOORE LOOSE POCKET FOR LOOSE LEAFBOOKS Filed 00t 5, 1923 Patented Mar. 2, 1922515.
LEWIS S. MOORE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
LOOSE POCKET FOR LOOSE-LEAF BOOKS.
Application filed October 5, 1923. Serial No. 666,693.
To aid whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS S. Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loose Pockets for Loose-Leaf Books; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to n ake and use the same.
My present invention has for its to provide a loose pocket for a loose hook, and to this end it consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indi cate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. l is a pospective view of a loose leaf book having the invention attached thereto;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the loose pocket removed from the book; and
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the reinforcing strip for the attaching flap.
The numeral l indicates the cover of a loose leaf book having separable rings 5 adapted, when open, to receive the inner edge portion of a pack of loose leaves 6 in which are punched holes properly spaced to receive the rings 5, when closed, for detachably holding the leaves within the co ver. index leaves 7 are also attached in the cover 4-. in. the same manner in which the leaves 6 are attached. lfhe parts thus far de scribed are of standard or commercial stock.
The loose pocket is indicated by the numeral 8 and is preferably of the same size as the leaves 6. This loose pocket 8 provided with an attaching flap 9 secured thereto by the hinged joint 10. interposed in the flap t) is a flat spring metal reinforcing stri 11 which is normally straight. Formed in the flap 9 and its reinforcing strip 11 are a plurality of eyes 12 properly spaced to receive the rings 5 and detachably secure the loose pocket 8 within the cover obj cot.
4- in the same manner that the leaves 6 are secured.
Preferably, the pocket 8 is attached to the cover a back of the leaves 6, and with its back next to said leaves so that it will form a solid surface for the leaves when writing thereon.
As is well known, in opening a pocket of the type shown the sides thereof are separated and bowed and as the reinforcing strip 11 would tend to hold the respective side of the pocket from bending freely, the result would be that the pocket would be liable to be torn at the corners when opening the same. To overcome this tendency of the reinforcing strip the ends thereof are formed oblique to reduce the length of the metal strip and its width at the ends so that itwill offer less resistance to the bending of the back member of the pocket when opening the pocket.
By forming the strip 11 of spring metal, the same acts to hold the flap 9 straight and thus keep the mouth of the pocket normally closed.
The loose pocket may be used for different purposes, such as holding cards, memoranda and the like, and may be made to fit different sized books. This pocket may be sold to the trade entirely independent of the loose leaf book.
What I claim is:
1. A loose poo st for a loose leaf book having an attaching flap with a normally straight flat spring metallic reinforcing strip imbedded therein near the opening in said pocke said flap and strip having eyes formed therein, and a hinge joint between the attaching liap and pocket.
2. The structure defined in claim 1 in which the ends of said strip terminate short of the ends of the pocket.
The structure defined in claim 1 in which the ends of said strip are in diverging relation toward the opening in said pocket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
I JEWIS S. MOORE.
