To all whom it may concern I Be it known that 1, MICHAEL PEKORA, a citiz enfof the United States, residing inthe my mammary ,offPhilad'elphia State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented a new and usefulWOutlet Plug for Dye Vets. of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of an outlet plug for a dye V mp is Pl g a c p o plate which are adapted to be connected by a screw or bolt in such manner that said screw is inclosed and thereby rendered inaccessible the dye inthe vat and to the discharging dye flowing from the vat through the outlet, while exposed heads of screws or bolts and nuts for "the latter as heretofore i'n usefor connecting the plug andcap are also dispensed with, and the cap is left intactwhereby corrosion of such screws or bolts, the holes therefor and the -heads and the nuts of the screws or bolts is prevented which otherwise would release the screws and allow the plug to drop from its position and be lost through the outlet which my invention is designed to obviate.
The invention is satisfactorily illusti ated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific de' tails shown and described, as long as they are within the scope of the claims.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of an outlet plug for dye vat embodying my invention, including also a vertical section of the adjacent outlet portion of the bottom of the vat.
Figure 2 represents a vertical section thereof on line 2-2 Figure 1.
Figure 3 represents a bottom plan view of the plug.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures. Referring to the drawings,
1 designates the bottom or base of a dye vat, the same having therein an outlet opening on the wall of which is the cylindrical thimble 2 of metal or other suitable material, on the upper end of which is the horizontally extending flange 3 which is seated on the upper face of the bottom 1 around said opening. The lower end of said thimble is screw-threaded for the engagement therewith of the nut 4 which is adapted to be 5 tightened on the lower face of said bottom 1 around the opening therein, whereby the thimble may be "firmly secured in posi- ,tion the thimble forming the outlet proper for the dye from the vat, andconstitutin'g a lining of the outlet opening in theho'ttom 1. des gnat s a p ug w i h is dapted o enter said thimble it 'comprisingat the top the cylindrical head ,6, and the tubular boss 7 Qastlthe i d epend ng; her om, thebore of saidjboss being open at its upper end'jarid closed atits lower end the solid wall :8 of the boss. I 1
Radiating from the exterior of said boss are the wings 9 which serve to strengthen said boss and gu'ide'the plug into saidthimble. The periphery of the head 6 is conical or tapering and has a seatlO on the upper end of the "thimble 2, forming a tight joint therewith.
11 designates a cap at the top of the device, this"be'ing adapted'to occupy a position above the bottom of the vat and has on its upper side the eye 12 for engagement of a suitable implement for raising said cap and consequently the plug and so opening the outlet of the tank.
Depending centrally from the underside of said cap and cast or otherwise secured thereto is the screw or bolt 13 which is adapted to pass through an opening centrally in the head 6 and enter the bore of the boss, the wall of said opening having thereon a screw thread which is a continuity of the thread on said boss, said threads being engaged by the thread of said screw or bolt.
lnterposed between the head 6 and the cap 11 is the annular gasket 14 whose outer peripheral portion is adapted to rest on the flange 3 of the thimble so as to form a tight joint therewith and prevent leakage thereat of the dye into the thimble and consequently into the outlet.
The gasket is formed with an opening in the centre thereof, the same being adapted to fit around an annular shoulder 15 at the centre of the underside of the cap 11 for uniformly positioning said gasket. The screw 13 is connected with said shoulder and the latter is cast with or otherwise attached to said cap 11, as a reinforced-connection for said screw.
It will be seen that the plug may be firmly connected with the cap or the top plate 11 by the screw 13 and the gasket 14L is accordingly held tight on the underside of the cap by the forcible clamping of the head of the plug against the cap by the action of the screw 13, as hereinbefore referred to.
It will be seen also that the screw 13 is inclosed in the bore ofthe boss 7, the dye being rendered inaccessible to the open top of said bore by the gasket 14 nor to the bottom thereof by the closure of said bottom due to the solid wall 8 of the bore thereat, hence the dye cannot reach the protected screw and bore of the plug and corrode or otherwise injure either of the same.
Furthermore, the cap or top plate 11 is intact being without screw holes or openings or otherwise perforated whereby the dye cannot flow through said cap and corrode either such holes and the bolts or screws which if used would occupy such holes and the tightening heads and nuts of such bolts or screws exposed to the action of the dye.
In either case the plug proper is not liable to be improperly disengaged from the cap nor drop through the outlet and so be lost.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. In combination a dye vat having a fiat bottom an outlet in the bottom thereof a flanged hollovs thimble fitted to said opening and secured therein the bottom of said thimble being open, a plug having a central screw-threaded socket arranged within said thimble to close same, said socket being operable through said thimble bottom, a cap having a screw-threaded; stem engaging said socket and a flat gasket arranged between said plug top and cap bottom and upon the top of said thimble flange for preventing the vat contents attacking said cap screw, the weight of the vat contents serving to hold said plug in position.
2. In combination a dye vat having a fiat bottom an outlet in the bottom thereof, a flanged hollow thimble fitted to said opening and secured therein the bottom of said thimble being open, a plug having a disclike head and a central screw-threaded socket depending therefrom which socket and head are reinforced by radially extending ribs, said plug being arranged within said thimble to close same, said socket being operable through said thimble bottom, a cap having a screwthreaded stem engaging said socket and a fiat gasket arranged between said plug top and cap bottom and upon the top of said thimble flange for preventing the vat contents attacking said cap screw, the weight alone of the vat contents serving to hold said plug in position.
