To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ll, JOHN Eireann, e citiin the county ci McIntosh and State ot 5 North Dakota, have invented certain new and use-ful Improvements in Tags, o which the following is ,e specification.
This invention relates to tag holding devices end is especially designed tor holding shipping tags.
The Iprimary object of'this invention is `the provision, in o manner as hereinafter set forth; of a holder designed to be attached to any article which has to be transported from place to place, for removably'holding upon the said nrticle a tag setting forth the destination of the article and the point troni which the same started upon its journey. This device is particularly adapted 'tor use upon such things as trunks, ice-cream tubs, soft drink ceses, malt and cider casksTbr/eud boxes, motion picture boxes, and all boxes and cans used to transport goods of alll descriptions. y
Another object of the invention the provision, in a manner as hereinafter set torth, of e teg holder of the typedescribed, having. means for holdingfthe corners of u tag end the central portion thereof so that the indicia thereon mey'fbe easily read, and at the same` time allowing the tog' to be easily and quickly removed for replacement by anotherteg. v
The invention contemplates the provision of a. platemeinber having; the corners thereof turned inwardly. and hnvingslots formed through the curved portion connecting the inturned corner with the body oi the plete. A Securing prong or spur is carried by the plate in the center thereof and this spur is adopted to be extended through the body of a teg end turneddown over the face thereof to secure the tag in position. The
corners of the tag are then extended through the slot formed in the curved portion oonnecting the inturned corners with the body of the plete. The tag is thus securely7 held f against accidentel displacement. integrally formed attaching talos are carried by the plete by Ineens oit which the same can be attached to any desired article.
A 'further und inal object of this invention is the provision, in a manner us hereinafter set forth7 of etagholderot unique and simple design, strong and durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

The invention will he best understood from a. consideration ot the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming e port ot this specification, with the understanding that 'the invention is not confined to ,any strict conformity with the showing ot the drawing but may be changed und. rnodiied so long es such changes end-modications niark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims. i l
Figure l is e plan Aview of the holder enr bodying this invention with a taugt-corrieri therein. i
Figure 2 is e transverseeection teiten up on the line 2-2 of Figure l and,
` Figure 3 is a, section. 'tolren upon the line 3--3 ot Figure l.'
Referring now tothe drawing in detail wherein like numerals of reference `indicete 'correspcmdin{,g` ports .throughout the' several viewsa the numeral l indicates u Het body member formed of, a plete et metal or other desirable material, and extending from each side of the plate ere inte-gul ears 2 through which apertures 3 are formed for the pas sage ot securing elements, when the holder is to be placed in position. j
Each of the tour corners of the piete l ure inturnedas shown, forming thepVerlying corner tongues t, and out througihthe bent or curved portion 5 whichijoins the tongue fl' tothe body, are slots 6 which .entend longitudinally of the bend .es shown. These slots do not extend to the edge portion but ere closed. at erich end es is also shown in Figure l.
Secured at one end to 'the central port oli the tace of the plate l is espring steel tongue 8 which is designed through its inherent spring qualities to lie tiet against the fece of the plate as shown.A When. a tag is to be placed in position the tongue is forced upwardly und Athen projected through the tag` after which itis released and will spring down upon the face ofthe-tag as shown.
When the holder is in use or is to be placed in use, securing members ere passed through 'the epertures 3 of the eers :2 to rnointain the holder in position upon the desired` article. A destination tog is then placed in position to have the'ezoruided spring tongue forced therethrough and when this tongue has swung down across the face lilo icey
when desired.
of the tag, the corners thereof are extendiecl It will be reaoliy seen from the foregoing description that a tag Such es that shown in Fgure l when placed in position in e holder of the type shown and described will be securely held and cannot become accidentally displaced or lost. -At the same time littie or no trouble is involveolin removing this tag and replacing the same with a new one Having thus described .my invention what l( claim is A tag holder of the character set forth, comprising e. Piate body having each corner thereof turned inwardly over the face of the plate and further having a slot out Jfrom the portion connecting the inturnecl corner with the loody for the extension of the corners Lenovo of a ta therethrough, means for attaching the bo y to en article, and an engaging tongue carried by the body and adapted to pierce the tag and secure the seme to 'the bo y.
2. A tag holder of the character set orth.'
`comprising a plate body, means whereby said body may be secured to an a1tiole,means forming im integral part of said body for holding the corners of an address card; and o tongue secured at one end to the face of said plate and having inherent means for causing it to normally press against the face ot the plate to hold the central portion of Seidear'ol thereagainst after beingprojected through the carl.
n testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto.
