To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE KELLOG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to buttons and more particularly to a novel and improved fastener which may be attached to the material of a garment without the necessity of sewing it thereto.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a button wherein the top is provided with a countersunk, removable stud constructed and arranged for cooperation with the bottom cap whereby the material of the fabric may be clamped between the top of the button and the bottom cap and thus eliminate the sewing of the button to the material or the garment.

A further object of my invention is to provide a button consisting of three parts, which are extremely simple in construction, easily assembled and disassembled, practical, durable and capable of a multiplicity of uses in the various arts whereby its commercial possibilities are greatly enhanced.

In order to more fully appreciate and understand my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings wherein,

Figure 5 is a sectional view through the bottom cap.

Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 5 designates the top of a button, which may be of any size and constructed either of metal, gold, or other suitable material. The button 5 is formed with a shank 6, which tapers into a flange 7 the bottom of which is formed with a concaved surface 8, for purpose presently to appear.

The top of the button 5 is provided with a lozenge shaped recess or aperture 8 in which a stud is adapted to be inserted, the top 9 of the stud being shaped to conform with the said aperture and be countersunk with- Serial No. 16,807.

The top 9 of the stud is preferably formed integral with a collar 10 and a threaded screw 11, said screw passing through the bottom cavity 8 of the button 5 above referred to. The top 9 of the stud is also provided with projections or lugs 12, which prevent the rotation or turning of the stud when seated in the top of the button.

A bottom cap 13, having a raised head 1% is adapted to extend upwardly toward the cavity 8, said cap being rovided with a threaded aperture 15 to receive the screw portion ll of the stud. An annular groove 16 on the bottom cap is provided to clamp and crimp the material 17 therein as the bottom cap is threaded on the screw 11, above referred to. Formed integral with the cap, are lugs or projections 18, whereby the cap may be rotated and threaded to the top of the button proper. In so connecting the button with the cap, it will be seen that the material is crimped or clamped in the groove 16 and thus prevents its separa tion when thus connected.

lVhile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 2- 1. A button of the class described comprising a head having a shank and a central recess therethrough, a pointed piercing stud seated within the recess, said stud being threaded and extending below the bottom of the shank and a cap threaded to the stud.

2. A button of the class described comprising a head having a shank and a central recess therethrough, the bottom of said shank being concave, a stud formed to pro vide a piercing point seated within the recess, said stud being threaded and extending below the concave bottom of the shank and a cap threaded to the stud.

A button of the class described C0111- prising a head having a shank and a central recess therethrough, formed to provide a piercing point, a stud and collar formed therewith countersunk Within the body of the head and having a threaded extension below the bottom of said head and a cap threaded to said extension and adapted to crimp the material against the bottom of said head.

4:. A button of the class described comprising a head having a shank and a central recess therethrough, the bottom of the head being concave, a separable pointed stud and collar formed therewith countersunk within the body of said head, a threaded extension below the collar projecting below the concave bottom and a grooved cap memes threaded to said extension for crimping the material against the bottom of said head.

5. A button of the class described comprising a head having a shank and a central recess therethrough, the bottom of said head being concave, a separable pointed stud having a lozenge shaped head and a square collar formed therewith countersunk within the body of the head, a threaded extension formed with the collar and a cap threaded to said extension, said cap having an inner annular groove adapted to crimp the material between the head and cap.
