(Cl. 24-105) This invention relates to a button device or apparatus which can be quickly and easily secured to textile goods and the like without the necessity of using any tools or other external materials.

An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type described especially suitable for replacing a lost or loose button on a shirt or similar goods while, for example, traveling or visiting away from ones normal place of residence. Such a device might be provided by hotels as a service to their guests along with, or in lieu of, the conventional sewing kit so often provided.

An additional object is to provide a button device that may be secured to a shirt or the like by one member, including a button member which corresponds to the conventional button customarily used on the garment and is connected to a securing member by thread or other means similar in appearance to those means normally employed to secure buttons to the shirt or the like conventionally.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description thereof proceeds, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which FIGURE 1 is a perspective view from above the button;

FIGURE 2 is a perspective view from below the button;

FIGURE 3 is a sectional view showing the button in use.

Referring more specifically to the drawings, indicates the complete new button device. The button device has a conventional display or button member 11 which is the member commonly referred to as a button by itself when it is a unit by itself and attached directly to -a shirt or other goods by thread in the present traditional manner. The member '11 is attached to a stud or carrier 12 by conventional thread 13. The stud 12 is made of molded plastic and the thread 13 is bound in the plastic at the time of mold-ing.

The stud 12 is comprised of an enlarged disk shaped head portion 14 and a shank portion 15 which are formed as a single integral molded member. The shank 15 merges perpendicular-1y into the center of one side of the head 14 at 16. The ends of the thread 13 are bound in the center of the head 14 at 17 on its side opposite the side the shank 15 extends from. The thread 13 forms a continuous loop extending from the head 14 and passing through eyelets 18 of the display member 11 and provides a flexible means connecting the display member 11 to the stud 12 in a manner enabling the manipulation of said display member 11 through the but-ton hole 19 in the conventional manner.

The shank 15 has screw-threads 20 which are adapted to engage and hold spring plate or clamp disc 21 by engaging lip 22 of the spring plate 21. The spring plate 21 is made of a thin piece of resilient metal. The lip 22 of the spring plate 21 defines a central aperture 23 which receives the shank 15. The shank 15 has a point 24 to facilitate its penetration of textile goods or the like 25. The stud 12 and the spring plate 21 together form a clamping member providing means for securing the button 10 to the goods 25. l

The spring plate 21 is formed as clearly shown in FIG- URE 3 Wit-h a shoulder 26. This shape provides for a resilient and stable clamping of the button 10 to the goods 25. The shoulder 26 also makes the'butt-on 10 more comfortable to Wear when it is used on goods worn with the point 24 of the shank 15 disposed toward the body of the wearer.

In operation the button 10 is clamped to the goods 25 by pushing the point 24 of the stud 12 through that portion of the goods 25 that is to be releasably attached to a portion of goods 25 having a button hole 19 therein. Next the spring plate 21 is secured to the stud 12 by engagement of the lip 22 with screw-threads 20. The spring plate 21 is brought upward on the shank 15 in as close proximity as possible to the head 15 to clamp the goods 25 between the spring plate 21 and the head 15 as securely as possible. This is done either by rotating the spring plate so that it will be urged upward by the screwthreads or by forcing the 'lip 22 of the spring plate 21 to ride over the screw-threads 20 by applying pressure to the spring plate 21.

Once the button 10 is thus secured to the goods 25 the display member 11 may be manipulated in a manner enabling it to pass through the button hole 19 in the c nventional manner to thereby releasably connect the goods.

The terms used in describing the invention are used in their descriptive sense and not as terms of limitation, it being intended that all equivalents thereof be included within the scope of the appended claims and that various changes in the specific form shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

I claim:

1. A button device attachable to a garment adjacent one margin thereof opposite another margin thereof having a butt-onhole therein, comprising, a carrier disc positionable on the outer surface of a garment adjacent one margin thereof and having a prong adapted to penetrate the garment material, a clamp disc positionable on the inner surface of the garment and having an aperture for receiving the prong and securing the clamp disc on the prong with the garment material tightly clamped between the two discs, a button adapted to be passed through a buttonh-ole and having a configuration including at least four apertures therethrough, and means attaching the button to the carrier disc in a manner enabling manipulation of the button relative to the carrier disc and through the buttonhole including at least two spaced strands of flexible thread each including a loop passing through two button apertures and about the butt-0n material between the apertures and end portions anchored in said carrier disc and of a length spacing the button from the carrier disc.

2. A button device as defined in claim 1 wherein said carrier disc is molded plastic with the ends of said thread loop embedded therein.

3. A combination as defined in claim 1 wherein said prong is threaded and the aperture in said clamp disc threadably receives the prong.

4. A combination as defined in claim 1 wherein the clamp disc is a thin-walled dish-shaped member, opening toward the carrier disc, and including a central deformation toward the carrier disc providing a recess for housing the free end of said prong and including a fiat center portion in the plane of the peripheral edge of the member having said aperture.

5. A button device attachable to a garment adjacent one margin thereof opposite another margin thereof having a buttonhole therein, comprising, a molded carrier plate positionable on the outer surface of a garment adjacent one margin thereof, a clamp plate positionable on the inner surface of the garment opposite the carrier plate, a prong on one of the plates adapted to penetrate the garment material and means associated with the other plate for securing it to the prong with the garment material tightly clamped between the two plates, a button adapted to be passed through a buttonhole and having a con-figuration including at least two apertures therethrough, and means attaching the button to the carrier plate in a manner enabling manipulation of the button relative to the carrier plate and through the buttonhole including at least one strand of readily flexible thread arranged with a loop passing through the button apertures and about the button material between the apertures and having end portions embedded in said carrier plate and of a length enabling the button to be spaced from the carrier plate.

Claims

1. A BUTTON DEVICE ATTACHABLE TO A GARMENT ADJACENT ONE MARGIN THEREOF OPPOSITE ANOTHER MARGIN THEREOF HAVING A BUTTONHOLE THEREIN, COMPRISING, A CARRIER DISC POSITIONALBE ON THE OUTER SURFACE OF A GARMENT ADJACENT ONE MARGIN THEREOF AND HAVING A PRONG ADAPTED TO PENETRATE THE GARMENT MATERIAL, A CLAMP DISC POSITIONABLE ON THE INNER SURFACE OF THE GARMENT AND HAVING AN APERTURE FOR RECEIVING THE PRONG AND SECURING THE CALMP DISC ON THE PRONG WITH THE GARMENT MATERIAL TIGHTLY CLAMPED BETWEEN THE TWO DISCS, A BUTTON ADAPTED TO BE PASSED THROUGH A BUTTONHOLE AND HAVING A CONFIGURATION INCLUDING AT LEAST FOUR APERTURES THERETHROUGH, AND MEANS ATTACHING THE BUTTON TO THE CARRIER DISC IN A MANNER ENABLING MANIPULATION OF THE BUTTON RELATIVE TO THE CARRIER DISC AND THROUGH THE BUTTONHOLE INCLUDING AT LEAST TWO SPACED STRANDS OF FLEXIBLE THREAD EACH INCLUDING A LOOP PASSING THROUGH TWO BUTTON APERTURES AND ABOUT THE BUTTON MATERIAL BETWEEN THE APERTURES AND END PORTIONS ANCHORED IN SAID CARRIER DISC AND OF A LENGTH SPACING THE BUTTON FROM THE CARRIER DISC.
