Description

G. JOHNSON Dec. 22, 1925- SHADE Filed Dec. 1. 1924 Gaary'e JJWOZ INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Dec. 22, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE JOHNSON, OF RIVER ROUGE, MICHIGAN.
SHADE.
Application filed December 1, 1924. Serial No. 753,350.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE JOHNSON, a citizen of United States, residing at River Rouge, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shades, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and improved article of manufacture in the nature of a spot shade holder, designed to be conveniently arranged on an electric light bulb or any other suitable support, and also in supporting a reflector to render the device particularly useful by doctors to support the reflector on the forehead.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing how it can be arranged or supported on an electric light bulb.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the invention.
The article forming the subject matter of the present invention is formed from a single length of any suitable material preferably wire, the wire being bent upon itself to provide a substantially U-shaped body portion, the parallel sides of which terminate to provide enlarged loops or coils 10 which engage the object upon which the holder is to be supported. The terminals of the wire are extended above and below the transverse member of the U-shaped body portion to form angularly shaped wings as clearly shown in Figure 2. Each wing being indicated at 11 and including a right angularly disposed portion 12 which is designed to engage the edge of the shade or reflector 13 as the occasion may be. Each wing receives the edge of this shade or reflector at the point of juncture with the angularly disposed portion 12, while the free end of the latter mentioned portion terminates to provide a hook 14 which also passes over the edge of the shade or reflector as shown in Figure 2. The wire forming these branches is crossed or twisted as at 15 or in other words at a point where the branches intersect the U-shaped body portion of the article above referred to.
It will be noted upon inspection of Figure 2, that the transverse portion of the U- shaped body is indicated at 16 and it includes two strands of wire which are bent forwardly to form the parallel portions 17 of said body, while one strand of each parallel portion is bulged as at 18 to receive the adjacent strand as shown in Figure 2. This construction holds the loops or coils 10 closed. The shade or reflector 13 can be easily slipped between the portions 12 of the wings 11 as shown in Figure 2, and the article then arranged upon an electric light bulb 19 as shown in Figure 1, or it can be associated with any other suitable support depending upon the use to which the invention is put. If used by a physician, the loops or coils 10 are arranged to engage the opposite sides of the head,th holder in its entirety possessing the desired degree of resiliency to effectively engage whatever support with which it is associated. Then again, the shade or reflector can be tilted with relation to the support, as the loops or coils 10 to a certain degree support the holder for pivotal movement.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A new and improved article of manufacture comprising a holder formed from a single length of wire and including a U- shaped body portion, the wire forming said body portion being crossed at a point centrally of the said body portion and extending in opposite directions to form angularly shaped wings, each wing including an offset horizontal portion terminating to provide a hook, and a coil formed on each parallel portion of the U-shaped body as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE JOHNSON.
