Description
F. WALKER.
HAIRPIN. I APPLICATION FILED MAR.20, 1920.
1,392,374, Patented 001;. 4, 1921'.
gles to the corrugations on UNITED STATES FRED WALKER, OF ZPHILADELPHI'A, PENNSYLVANIA.
HAIRPIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 4, 1921.
Application filed March 20, 1920. Serial No. 367,318.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED WALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hairpins, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in ahair pin, and has for its object to. provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character which is so constructed that when placed in the hair the strands of hair will be caught between the corrugations regardless of the direction in which such strands of hair are run.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hair pin having four tangs all of which are corrugated the corrugations on two of the tangs running in one direction while the corrugations on the other two tangs run in the opposite direction or at right anthe first named tangs.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hair pin having two central tangs provided with corrugations lying in one direction and two outer tangs having corrugations lying at right angles to the corrugations of the central tangs.
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1, is a front elevation of a hair pin embodying my invention.
Fig. 2, is an edge view thereof.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied, 2 represents a hair pin formed of suitable material such as wire bent upon itself to form two parallel central tangs 3 the ends being then bent outward upon said central tangs to form two outer tangs 4 the latter being preferably slightly longer than the centraltangs as shown in Fig. 1;
The central tangs 3 are eachv corrugated in the same direction throughout any desirable portion of the length as indicated by 5, While the outer tangs 4 are also corrugated throughout any desirable portion of their length as indicated by 6 the corrugations 6 lying at right angles to the corrugations 5 so that if the hair in the region of the application of the hair pin is either run horizontally or vertically they will be engaged by one set of corrugations which will prevent or reduce to a minimum the likelihood of the hair pin becoming accidentally disenga ed from the hair.
f course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the lim its of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is As an article of manufacture, a hair pin, comprising a single piece of material bent upon itself to form spaced parallel central tangs and having their ends bent outward upon themselves, to form outer tangs spaced from the central tangs, said outer tangs being approximately parallel with the central tangs, said central tangs having corrugations lying in one direction and said outer tangs having corrugations lying at right angles to the first mentioned corrugations.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
FRED WALKER.
