CARLOS ALFRED ELKILTS, 0F DUNNING, NEBRASKA.
DUPLICATOR.
Application filed December 27, 1924. Serial No. 758,456.
vice, the general object of the invention bev ing to provide a hinged case for enclosing the duplicating surfaces so that they will be protected from dirt and dust and also to make the surfaces interchange-able sothat a new surface can be put in place when the old one has become worn or unfit for use.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangen'ient of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. I
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing how the invention is used.
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the case in closed condition.
Figure 3 is an enlarged plan view with one of the surfaces partly removed.
Figure at is a section on line 44: of F igure 3.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure 3. I
Figure 6 is a. view of one of the locking pins.
As shown in these views, I provide a case A for receiving the duplicating surfaces which are shown at 1. This case is formed of two sections 2 and 3 which are hinged together, as at 4.. Each surface 1 is carried by a plate 5 which slides in guideways 6 formed in each section of the case, the parts being so arranged that the surface 1 is below the top edge of the section so that when the sections are closed the surfaces will bespaced apart. Each plate 5 is connected to an end piece 7 which is detachable from each section of the case and provides a handle for sliding the plate 5 and the surface thereon into and out of the section. -A pin 8 is carried by each end piece for engaging a hole in the section soas to hold the end piece with its'plate in closed position in the section. 7
By opening the case as shown in Figure 1 the letters or other matter can be duplicated in the usual manner and when not'in use by closing the case the surfaces are kept free of dust and dirt. If anything should happen to a duplicating surface so as to render it unfit for use it can be removed and a new one substituted very easily.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantagesand novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
that I claim is 1. A device of the class described prising a sectional case, the sections of which are hinged together, a plate slidably mounted in each section so that it can be removed therefrom and a. duplicating surface carried by each plate. I
2. A .levice of the class described comprising a sectional case, the sections of which are hinged together, guideways formed in each plate and a pin for holding the plate and end piece in closed position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CARLOS ALFRED ELKINS.
