TOILET ARTICLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JoNAs SIMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Articles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to toilet articles, more particularly to hair brushes, the main object being to provide a hair brush having a small mirror encased in its back, thereby making it a valuable adjunct to a traveling kit.

Another object is to provide a back cover which can be readily removed for the purpose of removing the mirror in the event of it being shattered by falling or otherwise.

These and other objects will become apparent in the description below in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.

Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure l is an elevational view showing the back cover and mirror encased therein.

Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation taken on line 22 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the back cover showing the novel means for retaining the cover on the brush body.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary side elevation, enlarged, showing the back cover removed from the brush body.

Referring more in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 represents the main body of a hair brush to which is secured stiff boar bristles 11.

A substantially rectangular handle 12 is formed at the lower end of the main body 10, and by which the hair brush is grasped when being used. The upper surface 13 of body 10 is thinner in cross section than the upper surface 14 of the handle.

A fillister head screw 15 is' secured at both the upper ends of the body 10 and the lower end of handle 12, the heads 16 of same being slightly raised above the surfaces 13 and 14.

A back cover 17 of identical contour to the body 10 and handle 12 is fitted to the surfaces 13 and 14. An annular mirror 19 is secured in a recess in the upper end of the cover 17 Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 27, 1922,

having a metal plate 20 protecting the'silvered surface. An annular rubber washer 21 is retained in the cover opening between plate 20 and surface 13, this providing a means for absorbing shock in the event of the hair brush falling thereby preventing the mirror from being shattered. The refleeting surface of the mirror 20 is exposed through the opening 18.

The cover 17 has holes 22 which lead into slots 23 and are of sufficient depth to admit the screw heads 16, the latter being coincident With the holes 22. It is apparent from Figure 4, that when the screw heads 16 are inserted into holes 22, the cover 17 will be slightly offset longitudinally from its intended position. By pushing the cover in the direction indicated by the arrow, shown in F igure 4, screw heads 16 will pass into recesses 24 until the rounded positions of the fiat spring 25, the latter being secured in a suitable recess 26 of the body handle 12 engaging notches 27 formed in the cover member 17, thus releases the cover to the body of the brush.

I claim 1. In combination with a hair brush body, a back coverhaving longitudinal slots and recesses formed in its upper and lower ends, screw members secured to the main brush body and adapted to engage the slots and recesses of the back cover, when holes in the latter are slipped over screw heads, an annular mirror secured in a suitable recess in the cover member, and means for releasably locking the back cover to the main body.

2. In combination with a hair brush body, a back cover member, screws secured at opposite ends of the brush body and adapted to engage recesses in the back cover member, and secure the latter to the brush body, a flat spring secured in the recess of the main body adapted to engage notches formed in the back cover and releasably lock the back cover and main body to each other, an annular mirror secured in a recess in the back cover, and means for detaching the back cover from the brush body.
