Description

Patented Oct. 27 1925.
UNITED. STATES PATENT orrics.
nmTnms PETERS, 0E DUISBURG, eEmumY.
STEEL ALLOY FOR THE EonL Es or 'PTLGER. nonnmo mans.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, MATHTAs' PETERS, a German citizen, and resident of 18 Menzelstrasse Duisburg, Germany, have invented 6 certain new and useful Steel Alloy for the Rollers of Pilger Rolling Mills, of which 20 hardness with the highest degree of tough-- 'ness, which 18 as insensitive as possible to rapidly changing temperatures, which is therefore not liable to be cracked superficially, which in spite of these properties '25 is not too difiicult-to work, and whichfinally is not substantially more expensive than steel as used hithertofor such and similar purposes. 1
The material which meets these require- 30 ments entirely and which was hitherto unobtainable consists of a steel alloy of which the essential additions consist .in 1.5 to 2.2%
a lication filed amen 19, 1925. 8eria1 m. 16,522.,
chromium, '1.0' to 1.65% tungsten and 1.0 to 1.65% nickel. ,The alloy may also contain 0.6 to 0.8% carbon, 0.4 to 0.7% 'anganese, 85 0.015 to 0.2%. silicon, and phos i l iorus and sulphur below 0.03%.
Having thus described my invention what ,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is v 4 1. A steel alloy for. rollers for Pilger rolling imlls consisting of steel containing about 2% of chromium, about 1.5% tungsten and about 1.5% nickel.
, 2. A steel. alloy for the rollers of Pilger 45 rolling mills, said alloy consisting of steel containing about 2% of chromium, about 1.5% tungsten, about 1.5% nickel, about 0.7% carbon, about 0.55% manganese, about 0.1% silicon, and below 0.03% phosphorus and sulphur.
3. As an article of manufacture a roller for Pilger rolling mills consisting of a steel alloy containing 1.5 to 2.2% chromium, 1.0 to 1.65% tungsten and 1.0 to 1.65% nickel. vI15 4. As an article of manufacture a roller for'Pilger' rolling .mills consisting of a steel alloy containing 1.5 to 2.2% chromium, 1.0'to 1.65%.tungsten, 1.0 to 1.65% nickel,
' 0.6 to 0.8% carbon, 0.4 to 0.7% manganese, 00 p 0.015 to 0.2% silicon, phosphorus-and sulphur below 0.03%.
