Description

- w. A. HEARN ANTISLIPPING DEVICE FOR {LADDERS Original Filed Dec. 5, 1916' WITNESS: JNVENTOR.
wal terkfleam ATTORNEY.
Patented Oct. 27, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTISLIPPING DEVICE FOR. LADDERS.
Substitute for application Serial No. 135,164, filed December 5, 1916. This application filed January 21,
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVAL'rEn A. II'EARN, a citizen of the United States of America, residin at Baltimore city, in the State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Antislipping Devices for Ladders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in anti-slipping devices for ladders, the objects of which are 1st, to provide a new article of manufacture,
2nd. To provide a device for preventing the slipping of ladders when used on pol ished surfaces such as highly polished floors, glass skylights, etc;
3rd. To provide a separate fixture which can be carried or sold independently of the ladder;
4th. To provide a means for readily attaching a tacky or sticky adhesive material like insulating or tire tape, to the under surface of the anti-slipping attachment;
5th. To provide a means for tying the device toa ladder when out of use, or a means for carrying it independently of the ladder. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- The figure is a perspective view of my anti-slipping device.
This application is a substitute for application Serial Number 135,16l, filed Dec. 5, 1916.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a block of any suitable material arranged to hold the leg of a ladder upon Serial No. 3,889.
its upper surface 6 and is provided with raised sides 2 to retain the ladder upon the said surface 6; and this block is provided with a groove 3 around the sides near the bottom, in which is inserted the ends 8 of the sticky tape 4c which is heldin the groove 3 of the block 1 by the wire band 5 or other suitable device such as a cord, rubber band, etc.
7 is a hole bored in the side of the block 1 to enable it to be tied or otherwise secured to a ladder by a cord or other suitable means.
I do not care to limit myself to any particular design of block, nor to the method for securing the sticky surface to the block.
What I claim is,
1. An independent rectangular support ing means for a ladder foot provided with an anti-slipping means engaging the bottom of said supporting means and provided with means for securing the said antislipping means to said supporting means, comprising a detachable flexible element.
2. In an anti-slipping ladder foot supporting means, a separate fixture independent of the ladder foot, comprising a supporting means for the ladder foot provided with an oblong strip of flexible anti-slipping materialengaging the bottom of said supporting means and a flexible element extending crosswise of the said anti-slipping material and engaging the sides of the said supporting means for detachably securing the said anti-slipping material to the said supporting means.
