One object of the present invention is to provide means for securing the device of this character formed of a bent rod, for securing the lamp socket to the rod by means of a pair of members that are clamped to*- gether on the rod by means which are used to secure the lamp or the shade to the holder.

The device as shown comprises two members, a cu member and a washer. The holder as set forth comprises a rod having side portions 2 and 3 connected by an integral bottom or transverse portion 4, that 1s given a curve or bend 5 at the middle portion. The'upper end of the side bars 2 and 3 are brought together and suitably secured to a head 6. As set forth the ends are deected at 7 and 8 and are embedded in the head 6 by having the head cast around them.

This head also carries a threaded stud 9` whose head is embedded in the casting, that can serve to secure the shade or shade carrier. But the device as set forth does not form subject matter of the present application.

ed to receive a threaded sleeve 13, see Fig. 6. The latter is provided with a flange 16 that is employed to secure the lamp socket to any suitable member or device. These parts are standard in the trade.

This invent-ion provides means whereby the bent rod at its lower portion 5 can be clamped between the lamp and the ange 16 of the sleeve 15. I provide a cup member 17 having a base 18 with a central opening 19 of a size to permit free entrance of the sleeve l5. At opposite sides of the cup flange it is out away at 20, 21, to admit the transverse portion et of the supporting rod. The cup is of a size to receive the curved portion 5 of the rod, the ends of which enter the sockets 20 and 21, see Fig. 2, which will permit the curved portion to rest on the annular bottom 18 of the cup member, as shown. A washer 22 is provided of a size to enter the cup portion and the side wall of the cup flange is of a height to have the washer rest on the top of the curved portion 5, with its edge engaging the side walls. The washer is preferably somewhat tapered and will have a tight fit in the cup, so that it can be forced i down and retain the cup engaging the curved part- 5 of the rod. This will permit a ready assembly of the parts, and they can be packed and stored in this form. When ready for use the sleeve member 15 is passed up through the cupand washer, and screwed into the threaded sleeve extension 12 o-f the lamp socket, until the flange 16 engages the bottom wall of the cup, and forces it upward, bringing the washer 22 against the lower edge of the socket sleeve 12, as shown in Fig. 1. This will serve to tightly clamp the cup member and washer in engagement with the curved portion 5 of the rod and hence the lamp socket is securely locked to the rod member.

What I claim is: v

1. A lamp support comprising a rod bent to form a transverse lower portion with arms projecting upwardly that are brought together at the top, means rigidly connecting said ends and forming a shade support, said transverse base portion being deflected laterally at its middle portion to form a semi-circle, a pair of annular clamping members engaging said deflected portion, and means for holding them together engaging said deflected portion, comprising a threaded sleeve having a flange, which sleeve can passthrough the annular members into the threaded sleeve end of a lamp socket, whereby to clamp said members together against the rodvportion .and support the rod.
