HERBERT-A. BEENK, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.
I TELEPHONE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 4, 1924. Serial No. 753,933.
To all whom itmar concern."
Be it known that I, HERBERT A; BEENK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Lin and State of Iowa, have invented certam new and useful Improvements in Telephone Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in supports for pads and the like and more especially to supports of this character which are especially adapted for attachment to telephones, although not necessarily restricted to this location. v
An important object of my invention is to provide'a device of the above'mentioned character which will serve as a support for advertising matter.
Another object of my invention is the provision" of a device of this character which will combine with a pad supporting means, means to grasp a memorandum slip, and means for removably securing a pencil or the like.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which will lie of simple construction, easily installed, and strong and durable.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification and wherein I like numerals denote like or corresponding parts throughout the same;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a telephone equipped with a device embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a detail of the blank from which the device is formed,
Figure 3 is a plan view of the complete attachment, and,
Figure {is a central longitudinal section through the same.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates a blank of any suitable material such as metal, celluloid, orthe like, provided with a contracted neck portion 11 between its ends adapted to be bent upon itself at its central portion to form a cylindrical socket 12 for a pencil 13 or the like. An auxiliary ch 14 is struck up from the neck portion and is adapted to resiliently engage the pencil.
The-portion 15 of the blank below the neck portion 11 is adaptedto be bent upwardly so as to lie flush against the surface of the back portion 16, the portion 15 t'erminating a substantial distance short of the end of the back portion 16, and being provided with a guiding clip 17 at its end.
The sections 15 and 16 are provided with corresponding openings 18 spaced from the ends of the section 15, through which the mouthpiece 19 of a telephone 20 isadapted to extend. The shoulder 21 of the mouthpiece clamps the sections 15 and 16 together so that the upper end of the section 15 is normally held in engagement with the section 16, but it may be moved from engagement therewith, against thetension of the section due to the clamping action of. the mouthpiece 19.
Memorandum slips, may be slipped between thesections and clamped in place in plain view as at 26. If desired the pad may be inserted between the section instead of over the end of the back section 16. While 'I have shown the device applied to a telephone, it may be secured to a wall or the like by means of the openings 27, if desired.
It will be seen that I have provided a deslips, cards or the like.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it.
is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent 1s:
i 1. In a telephone attachment, a blank adapted to be folded upon itself to form two superimposed-sections, the upper of the sections terminating a substantial distance short of the lower of the sections, corvice which can be easily and cheaply conends of the neck portlon so as to form a cylindrical, pencil receiving compartment, the cylindrical portion having a clip struck therefrom and adapted to clasp the pencil, the upper of the sections terminating short of the lower of the sections, the sections being provided with corresponding openings spaced from the ends of the sections and adapted to receive the mouth iece of the telephone which is adapted to 0 amp the sec- I tions together, whereby said sections form a card holding clasp.
In testlmony whereof I afiizr my signature.
' HERBERT A. BEENK;
