voorvnninno remit ANTD arrscntnniqnons 1103131511..
The primary purposeof this invention is to supply a holder to be attached to a type l pencils,
writing" machine for receiving erasers and sundry art cles which it s desirable for a'typist to have ready and cone miscellaneous articles, a coil to receive and hold pencils andla clainp for attachment of the device to the typewritin-g machine;
Vhile the drawings illustrate a preferredv einhodimentof the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the means to meet spec fic needs and requirements the design may be varied and such other changes in the minor details of construction may be resorted to within the ,scopeof the invention as ,claiined, withoutv departing from the spirit thereof. I 1 V For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to he had to the following descriptionfand the drawings hereto attached, in which,
Figure l is a side view'of the device showing it applied to a typewriting machine. igure 2;is to top plan, View of the device showing a portion ,of thetypewriter frame to which it is fitted, the dotted lines indicating the positioniof a pencil. Figure 3 isa detailfsectionalviewon the line '33 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows. f V 1 Figure 4 is a schematic view of the'blank from which the article is formed." e
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters. The device comprises a tray, an attaching clamp, and a pencilh'older, the latter con sisting of an open coil spring. I
The jaws of the clamp, the tray and the supporting elements for the coil spring are of integral formation and comprise parts of a single blank having the outline substantially as illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings, said blank having portions folded upon itself, as indicated by the dotted lines to provide the several elements.
As indicated most clearly in Figure 4, the
blank comprises an elongatechor strip por-.
tion, and a lateral extension at one end thereof, froinwhich the tray is formed, the
most clearly; in Figured elongated or strip portion'forming the jaws of the clamp and" the supporting means for the wirejcoil constitutingthe pencil holder,
'lhe "lateral extension. the bla-nl; constitutes the bottom 1 of the tra the ends 2 e Si Th PQIt On 2nd 3 fil'BTbQBF pe pendlcu ar to j heib t m 'PQI'UQII- 1 on he d e i in s "T e i n r r ionsi2 P j a s'hfort distanceso as tooverlap theends of the side 3,- as indicated most clearlyin Figs ure 2; I'lhe strip or,elongatedgportipn.of
the blank comprises a portion l"which constitutes thejhottoin 101": the support -fortl e pencil holding coil 5, portions 6 which when folded, provide the inner jaw of the clamp,
portions 7, similar to the portions 6, whieh when folded, provide the outer jaw of. the
clamp, an intermediate portion'8 connecting the two aws, a portion 9 overlyingthe clampjand similar end porti ons 10 which are bentupwardly to forin the end pieces be tion of the blank andibent over the 'end'coils 13 connected thereto 'iby means of a: swivel Vjoint to-admit of rotation of theclamp screw Without a corresponding/rotary rnovetween which the pencilliolding eoil 5 isconfined and retainedlin place by ears '11 at the extremities of the strip' orelongated porment of the pressure piece: The portions? 7 ofxthe blank lie close together, as indica ted The spring coil e censtitutesa raok or holder for'pencils and analogous articles,
and is supported upon the part 4 andconfinedbetween the parts 10 and is retained in place by having the ears 11 bent over the endcoils. The inner or rear side of the tray is open, however, the cello extends across articles placed upon the tray. The "clamp is located wholly at oneside of'the tray-and articles to be kept readily at hand for :im-
mediate use. I p
lVhile the device is particularly adapted for typewritingmachines, it, may he emsaid open side and prevents displacement of e ployed in connection with other objects,
whereby to maintain pencils, eraser-s, paper clips and the like in convenient position for the use of atypist, accountant or ainanuensis.
'lheclainp provides convenient means ior ttachin the device to the trameoi" a t ewriter or to any other desired support.
Having thus described the invention, 1 claim:
1. A combined holder of the character specified comprising a tray adapted to receive erasers and sundry small articles, a pencil holder in line with and forming a side of the tray and a clamp at one side of thetray and pencil holder to space the same from a typewriting machine or other support, to which" the article may be attached.
2. it. ClBVlCeOfthe character specified comprising a tray closed at one side and opposite ends by upstanding walls and a pencil holder at the open side oi? the tray including a wire coil extending'across the sopen side of the tray to'prevent displacement of articles from the said open side of the tray.
3. An attachment typewriting inachines comprising a tray having an open side and an extension at the'open side provided with upwardly projecting elements, a pencil holding coil closing the open side or the tray and supported upon the said extension and connected to the upwardly projecting elements thereof, and a clamp in line with and at one end of said extension, I
4Q A combined device of the character specified, comprising a tray, a support at one side at I the tray compr sing a bottom and end pieces, a wire coil resting upon the bottom portion ofthe support and confined between the end pieces thereof, and a clamp in line with the support to space it and the tray from the part to which the device be attached. I
A device of the character specified comprising a single blank including a strip and a lateral extenslon at one end of thestrip, a side and end portions of the lateral extension being bent to form enclosing walls of a tray and the said strip having portions bent to provide a support and spaced depending jaws, said support including a bottom and end pieces, a clamp screw fitted to one of said jaws and an open wire coil confined between the end pieces of the support and resting upon the bottom portion there 01', parts of the end pieces being bent around the end coils to retain the said open coil in place.
6. A device of the character specified comprising a single blank including a strip and a lateral extension at one end of the strip, said lateral extension having a. side and end porlions'bent to term enclosing walls of a tray, and the said strip having portions folded to provide spaced jaws joi' a clamp and end pieces of a support, the bottom of which is substantially in the plane of the bottom of the tray, an open wire coil placed upon the bottom of said support and confined between the end pieces and retained in place by having the said ears bent about the end coils, and clamp crew titted to one of the jaws of the clamp.
A device of the character specified, comprising a single blank including a strip and a lateralentension at one end or the strip, a side and end portions of the lateral extension being bent to provide enclosing walls of a tray, and said strip having intermediate portions folded to provide spaced jaws of a clamp andhaving one portions bent to provide end pieces or a support, said strip having tern'iinal ears, an open wire coil confined between the end pieces of the support and resting upon that portion of the strip opposite and in line with the tray, and having the said ears cent about the end coils thereof,
' and clamp screw fitted to one or the jaws of the clamp;
in testimony whereof I my signature.
