Description

E. BEAR. CLOTHESLINE FASTENER. APPLICATIONIILED MAR. 16, 1922.
1,434,802, Patented Nov. '7, 1922.,
INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
STATES EDWARD BEAR, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLOTHESLINE FASTENER.
Application filed March 16, 1922.
To all whom it 07mg, concern:
Be it known that l, EDWARD BEAR, a citizen oi? the United States, residing. at Bronx, county of Bronx, and State 01 New York, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in a Clothesline Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes line adjusters, and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a device of this character which will allow a ready and convenient adjustment of any slack in the line and effectively prevent the parting of a line which is accidentally dropped.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device which is extremely simple in its construction and therefore inexpensive to manufacture and extremely convenient to operate.
These and other objects and advantages of my device will become more fully apparent as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
in the accompanying' drawing, forming a material part of this i vention:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view showing the device connected with a clothes line.
Figure 2 is a front view of my device on an enlarged scale seen along line 2-2 of Figure 3, and
Figure 3 is an end view of my device.
The device comprises a body, preferably of metal, bent upon itself to form a member 10 of substantial U sh.aped cross section to provide shanks 11 and 12 spaced from each other, and the inner bottom wall of member 10 is corrugated as indicated at A pin 1 ispassed transversely through shanks 11 and 12 at a distance above the Serial No. 544,295.
bottom of member 10 and on this pin a toothed segment 15 is pivotally seouired, having a flat part 16 on its lower face. Integral with segment 15 is a handle 17 provided with openings 18 and 19.
A clothes line 20 is guided over pulleys 21 and 22 secured in the usual manner by means of their eyes 23 to hooks 2 l fastened to any suitable supporting means. 1
One of the ends of line 20 is guidec through clamp member 10 as indicated at 25 while the other end of said line is guided through opening 18 and formed behind the same into a knot'25.
The operation of my device will be clear without vfurther explanation from the above description.
Changes may be made in the general arrangement of parts and the construction of the minor details without departing from the scope and spirit of my invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A device of the class described comprising a body member formed by bending its material upon itself to form parallel shanks in spaced relation to each other, corrugations on the inner bottom wall of said member adapted to enga 'e one end of a clothes line, a transverse pin in said body member, a toothed segment pivotally secured to said pin and having a "flat iface separating its tooth parts at its bottom part, and a perforated handle formed with said segment for allowing the passage of the other end of saidline adapted to be held against said handle by a knot it'ormed in said end after its passage through said handle.
In testimony whereof I have atfixed my signature.
EDWARD BEAR.
