- E. BEAR CLOTHESLINB FASTENER Filed r m 16. 1922 INVENTOR. 4 6144170! 36d) mtfi g ATTORNEY.
Patented Apr. 15, 1924.
U ITE S T TES EDWARD BEAR, O BRONX, NEW YORK.
CLOTHESLINE FASTENER.
Application filed March 16, 1922. Serial No. 544,296.
' To (121 whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD BEAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bronx, county of Bronx, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Olothesline Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in adjusting devices for clothes lines as fol instance described in my co-pending applica tion, Serial No. 528,699, filed January 12, 1922, and it is the object of the invention to provide an eccentricallypivoted clamping member for connecting absolutely and positively, yet adjustably the ends of a clothes line or similar cable.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this class which is extremely simple and inexpensive in its construction, which however effectively allows a convenient adjustment of the two ends of a clothes line etc.
These and other objects of my invention will become more fully apparent as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming'a material part of this disclosure,
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view of a device constructed according to the present invention showing the same in connection with a clothes line.
Figure 2 is aside view of the same on an enlarged scale, and seen along line 22 of Figure 3.
Figure 3 is an end view thereof.
The device comprises a body member 10 formed by bending the material upon itself, to form shanks 11 and 12 said body being substantially U-shaped and its inner bottom wall is provided with teeth or corrugations 13. A pin 14 is transversely supported in the upper parts of shanks l1 and 12 and on this pin is eccentrically and pivotally secured the lower end of an operating handle 15 which is formed into a substantially circular part 16 provided with teeth 17 on part of its periphery and a smooth edge 18. The handle 15 is provided with openings 19 and 20.
In operation, one of the ends of a clothes line 21 is passed through one of the openings 19 or 20 and formed into a knot 22 be hind said handle. The other end, 23 of the clothes line is passed through body member 10 between its corrugated face 13 and the clamp part 16 and the handle 17 is turned down.
It is clear, that upon securing the line 21 between its ends as indicated in Figure 1 to pulleys 24iand 25 which are secured by means of theirhangers 26 to hook 2'7 fastened in any suitable support, the line can be kept taut under all conditions and will not part if accidentally dropped.
It is clear that changes may be made in the general arrangement and combination of elements and the construction of the minor details without departing from the scope and spirit of my invention.
What 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A clothes line fastener, comprising a body shaped to provide spaced parallel walls and a rounded bottom portion, the inner surface of said bottom portion being formed with corrugations, and a handle member terminally formed to provide a toothed segment, said handle member being pivotally supported between the walls of the body to arrange the toothed portion of the segment eccentric with relation to the pivot, whereby in movement of the handle in one direction the toothed segment approaches the corrugations in the bottom of the body.
In testimony whereof I have atlixed my signature.
EDWARD BEAR.
