Description
H. A. KLEIN.
COLLAR.
APPLICATION FILED APR) 18, I921. 1,431,009, Patented 00t.3,1922.
WITNESS:
ATTORNEY Patented Unit. 3, I922.
STATES HERMAN A. KLEIN, 0F YUBA CITY, CALIFORNIA.
COLLAR.
Application filed April 18, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN A. KLEIN, a citizen of Germany, residing at Yuba City, in the county of Sutter and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparel, particularly to collars of the turned down type, and has for its object the provision of a collar which is so constructed as to hold up the knot of a tie and prevent the tie from slipping down to the lower portion of the opening atthe front of a collar.
An important and more specific object is the provision of a collar of this character which in addition to the usual button holes is provided at the edges of the opening with overlapping tongues which are notched for interengagement, these tongues being disposed beneath the knot of the tie so as to prevent the tie from slipping down, the inter-engagement of the notched tongues also serving to prevent the collar from gaping at the open front.
An additional object is the provision of a collar of this character which will be simple and inexpensive to manufacture, highly efficient in use, easy to apply, durable in service and a general improvement in the art.
lVith theabove and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my collar in open or unapplied position.
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof in applied position.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional View and Figure l of a horizontal sectional view taken through the overlapping tongues.
Referring more particularly to the drawings I have shown my collar as of the turned down type and including inner and outer folds l0 and 11 respectively. At the center of the back the inner fold provided with the usual button hole 12 for engagement upon the collar button the back of a shirt band. At the front of the collar, that is at the ends, the inner fold has formed thereon the usual overlapping tabs 13 provided with button holes 14. for engagement upon the collar button at the front of a shirt band. Up
Serial No. 462,096.
to this point, my collar is no different from any other well known collar.
In carrying out my invention, I provide at the ends of the outer fold 11 elongated tongues 15 which are formed integrally upon the outer fold and which are adapted to be arranged in overlapping position as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 4. One tongue 15 is formed with a notch or slit 16 which extends upwardly from its lower edge and the other tongue is formed with a notch or slit 17 which extends downwardly from its upper edge and these slits are adapted to be brought together so as to constitute a lock for the tongues.
In the use of my collar it will be seen that it is applied in the usual manner after which the tongues 15 are properly arranged and engaged within the slits. It will be observed that the overlapping of the tongues 15 defines a substantially circular opening above them through which the knot of the neck tie, not shown, extends and it is quite obvious that the tie will be held up by means of the tongues and be absolutely prevented. from slipping down to the lower portion of the collar as usually occurs in the use of the ordinary type of collar. It is therefore apparent that my collar will be very attractive n appearance as the neck tie will be held in proper position even though it be not tied very tightly.
The specific arrangement of the tongue and lock slits shown in the drawings is illustrative only as it is readily conceivable that the notches in the tongues may be either fold, may extend upwardly or downwardly, and that the ends of the tongues can be out in any shape preferred.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is of course to be readily understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim I A collar including outer and inner folds, theinner fold being provided intermediate its ends with a button hole adapted for engagement with a collar button at the back of a shirt band and being provided near its ends with button holes adapted for engageupwardly from its lower edge, said tongues being designed to overlap with the slits in 10 engagement, whereby to define a tie receiv ing space at the upper portion of the outer fold at the meeting ends thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HERMAN A. KLEIN.
