Be it known that I, FRANK F. VJEAR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Montara, county of San Mateo, State of California, have invented Improvements in Display Bins; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof my invention, such as will enable others skilled-in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same.

This invention relates to a display-bin; and the same consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination ofparts hereinafter described and later claimed.

The object of my invention is to provide a device suitable for displaying in an attractive manner to intending purchasers such dry commodities as coffee, macaroni, nuts, crackers, dried fruits, seeds and the like. By reason of its construction, and the removable. and adjustable toe-block with which it .is provided, my display-bin may, from time to time, be used in connection with any of the above-mentioned classes of goods on display, thus obviating the necessity of providing special display-bins for each particular kind of goods. Moreover, my device is convenient for the dispenser of the goods; the goods on display are ever preserved in a clean and sanitary condition, free from dust or moisture; and they may be inspected by intending purchasers without handling.

In order that my invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect, the same is described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which similar numerals indicate like parts Fig. 1, is a rear view;

In detail, my construction consists of a suitably supported rectangular base, 2, preferably of wood. Rising from the rear of said base is the frame, 3, to which are attached'the rear edges of the sides, 4, and a partition, 5. The front, 6, and two sides, 4, are held further in place at their lower edges in recesses formed by the false bottom, 7, and the strips, 8, suitably attached to' said base. cemented together where they come in contact with each other, thus forming a receptacle open to inspection. The space in the receptacle may be divided into separate chambers by means of one or more partit1ons, 5.

By means of two horizontally disposed hinged doors, 10 and 11, respectively, carried on the rear by the frame, 3, the bin is emptied or filled by the dispenser. Suitably attached to a horizontally disposed cleat, 12, afliXed to said frame, 3, is a shelf. 18, preferably of glass extending obliquely forward and downward,the object of which is to support the material in the bin forward or away from the lower opening, so that, while the upper surface of the material in the front part of the bin may be at a considerable height, as shown in dotted lines at'13, that in the rear part of the bin slopes down ward rearwardly from the rear and front edge of said partition, as shown at 13". This latter surface remains substantially the same the bin to which the scoop is to be applied for removal by the dispenser remains substantially uniform until the greater part of such material has been removed from the bin.

The bottom of my bin consists of a sheet portion, 14-, is suitably aflixed to a horizontally disposed wide cleat, 15, held by said frame, 3; and whose front portion, 14 rests flat on said false bottom,.'. and flush with said glass front, 6. Within the receptacle I place my adjustable toe-block, 16, which is provided with vertical ends, 16-, a vertical face, 16 and a concave back, 16. As shown in the drawings, the back and face are shod with a suitable metal covering, 17 provided with a spring lip, 18. Within a groove, 19, provided on the lower central portion of said block, 16, is screwed a springtube-clamp, 20, by means of which said block is removably attached to a lockingrod, 21, mounted on said bottom, 14, and held in a fixed position when the displaybin is in use. Between the face of the said toe-block and the glass front, 6, there is formed a pocket, 22, open at the top (see of suitable metal, 14, whose up-turned rear 3 Fig. 3.), wherein there may be displayed specimens of the salable product held in the bin; and, by adjustments of said block in or out a greater or smaller space may be provided for the pocket as the necessities of the different classes of goods to be displayed may require,thereby making possible the use of one of my display-bins in connection with a large variety of salable products.

While my drawings show the toe-block to be shod on face and back with a metal covering it will be obvious that the said toe-block may be all of one material and have no such metal covering. And I wish it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction so shown anddescribed in my drawings and specification, for I recognize the fact that it is possible for the parts to be differently constructed and still be operative.

Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure and to claim by Letters Patent, is

1. In a display-bin, a base, a transparent receptacle resting thereon open to inspection from its ends, front and top, partitions for said receptacle, a bottom, a back, a shelf at tached to its rear to said back and extending obliquely downward to a point above the said bottom, doors in said back above and below said shelf, adjustable means for forming a pocket at the front of the bin and adapted to receive and display specimens of the salable product to be held in the bin, said means consisting of a toe-block pro vided with a concave back and a face parallel with the front of said bin, and a springclamp and a locking-rod whereby said toeblock may be removably secured in position within said bin.

2. Ina display-bin, a base, a back rising from said base, doors for said back; ends, front and top composed of glass and comprising a transparent receptacle; a glass partition for dividing said receptacle into separate chambers; a shelf attached at its rear to said back and extending obliquely downward to a point above said bottom within said bin; a removably toe block whose face is parallel with saidglass front; a concave back for said toe-block, a metal covering for said face and said back; means for adjustably securing said toe-block in position within said bin, said means consisting of a spring-clamp and a locking-rod adapted to receive said clamp; and an open pocket formed by said ends, bottom, toeblock and front adapted to receive and display specimens of the salable product to be held in said bin.

In adisplay-bin, a transparent receptacle open to inspection from its ends, front and top, an adjustable toe-block for forming a pocket at the front of said bin adapted to receive and display specimens of the salable product to be held in said bin, and means for removably securing said toe-block in position within said bin.

4. In a display-bin, a base, a transparent receptacle resting thereon open to inspection from its ends, front and top,a bottom, means for forming a pocket at the front of said bin adapted to receive and display at the said front specimens of the salable product to be held in the bin, said means consisting of a toe-block provided with a concave back and a face parallel with the front of said bin, and means for adjust-ably securing said toe-block in position within said bin.

5. In a display-bin, a base, a transparent receptacle resting thereon open to inspection from its ends, front and top, a bottom, adjustable means for forming a pocket at the front of said bin adapted to receive and display at the front of the bin specimens of the salable product to be held in the said bin, said means consisting of a toe-block pro vided with a concave back and a face parallel with the front of said bin, and a spring clamp and a locking-rod whereby said toeblock may be removably secured in position within said bin.
