Description

Nov. 3o, 1926.A 1,609,054 o. J. BOLDT DISPLAY AND WRAPPING COUNTER Filed Nov. 19, 1925 2 Sheets-Shea*v 2 Patented Nov. 3), 19.26.
UNITED starts OSCAR J. BOLDT, OF AELE'GN, /VSCONSIN.
.DISPLAY AND 'RAIPPING Application tiled November 19, 1925.
This .invention relates to wrapping counters.
In the old style of wrapping counters usually found in grocery stores, it was customary to provide drawers which were not sanitary and not at .all satisfactory for the free and easy access, for rapidity or" operation, to wrapping merchandise. It was found impossible to keep insects out of the old style counters. Spielers particularly, would iind their way along the side ot the drawers.
Objects ot this invention are to overcome the defects noted above .and to provide a display and wrapping counter which may be used wherever necessary, for instance, in grocery stores, and to so construct the counter that it may be readily kept in a sanitary condition and will not only display the goods in an attractive manner, but also provide all the desirable characteristics of a wrapping counter. y
Further objects are to provide a combined display and wrapping counter in which a plurality of bins are provided for the display of material, in which the material may be inspected 'from the front or trom the top, and. in which a substantial supporting panel is provided for holding relatively heavy articles such as scales, for instance, and for providing an accessible portion for wrapping.
Further objects `are to provide a counter having the characteristics noted above in which provision is made for holding empty bags, wrapping paper and other articles of this type in an accessible position for the dealer, so that he is not required to have other auxiliary devices near ,at hand in order to complete the entire transaction ot selling and delivering his material to the customer.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a front view ot the counter.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the counter.
Figure 4 is a rear view thereof.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the counter is provided in the front with two rows of panels, namely, lower panels l and upper panels 2.
The panels l are preferably made of wood or other opaque material, while the panels display and V2 are made of glass and act as display portions for the bins 3 arranged directly behind Serial No. 70,862.
such upper panels. The bins 3 are provided with transparent upper portions t for the trent halt of their extent and are provided with upwardly opening` doors 5 hinged adjacent their forward ends to facilitate filling and cleaning ot the bins. These bins are further provided with small doors 6 at their rear through which the merchandise may be readily removed.
lt is to be noted in this connection from reference to Figure Zthat the bottom of the ins consists of a front horizontal portion 7 and a rear upwardly slanting` portion 8 to facilitate the removal of material and also to make it more difficult for'the material to spill outwardly from the bin.
Below the bins 3, open spaces 9 are provided and are formed between the members 7 and 8 and a transverse bottom l0.
Suitable bracing bars l1 extend upwardly at intervals between these members. This space 9 is closed at its front end by the opaque panels l and is accessible from the rear end through the opening ll which eX- tends from one end of the device to the other, as shown particularly in Figures l and 4.
The entire device is supported by inwardly positioned longitudinally extending members 12 which give a iinished and attractive appearance to the device.
It is to be noted that the doors 6 do not contact with stops completely therearound, but merely engage a strike or stop 13 (see Figure 2) adjacent their upper ends. This improves the sanitary condition of the device it avoids all corners and spaces where vermin may gather, and which are admittedly difficult to clean. Instead, when the doors 6 are open they may be readily cleaned, together with their casings completely around the opening for the door. Further, the bins themselves may be easily cleaned by raising the doors 5 and permitting ready access thereto. Such lat-ter tilling the bins in a simple manner.
The open space 9 is adapted to receive empty bags, rolls or stacks of wrapping paper and other. material, as desired.
It will be noted from reference to Figure 2 that the 'front top portion of the counter formed of the transparent plates 4. and
the rear is 'formed of the solid wooden doors 5. Further. it is to be noted that at some portion, preferably intermediate the ends ot the entire counter, as illustrated in Figure 3, a solid wooden or other type of supporting doors 5 also aid inv llt),
top lllkis'provided. This portion of the device is strong` and'is provided to support scales and other heavy articles without'd'an'- ger of crushing the Counter inwardly.
Further, the wooden portions formed by the doors and this central panel, provide wrapping spaces for the dealer without in any way obstructingthe view of the bins.
lt is to-be noted that the doors 5 preferably extend from one endcompletely across to the solid panel del so as-to .avoid needless cracks and openings, although it is to befunderstoodthat they may be made separate if desired.
It will be seen that a novel form ofcoinbined`- display and wrapping counter has been' provided which fulfills a. long,` felt want in theretail trade, `and it will be seen yfurther that .the counter provided .bythis invention'has the desirable characteristics offree and attractive displayY of the goods, ofproviding a substantialsupport forheavy articles and of'providing space for wrapping.`
Although theinvention hasbeen described in considerable detail, suoli description is intended as illustrative rather than limit-ing' as the invention maybe variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be determined as claimed.
