LAMP ATTACHMENT,

Specification 0f tt r -3mm- Eatented Feb. 28, 1922..
Application filed October 23, 1920. Serial No. 418,893.
'0 mil misomit may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL H. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cartersville, in the county of Bartow and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Lamp Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in lamp attachments and has particular reference to an article of this character used for heating purposes.
An important object of this invention is to provide an article of the above mentioned character, which may be attached to a lamp of the ordinary structure without making any changes.
A further object of this invention is to provide an article of the above mentioned character which is of a detachable structure, thus enabling the attachment to be removed when not in use.
A further object of this invention is to provide an article of the above mentioned character which is simple in structure, use
ful in its function, and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
Briefly stated, my invention comprises a heating receptacle which is spaced from the upper peripheral edge of the lamp chimney through the medium of a supporting frame, and held in a substantial vertical position by the resilient brace strips, said strips having their ends detachably connected to the annular flange surrounding the lower edge of the chimney.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1, is a side elevation of my improved lamp chimney with a part broken away to show the detailed construction,
Figure 2, is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3, is a top view of the attachment, and
Figure 4i, is a transverse sectional view through the heating cup and supporting member.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a base plate, having an annular flange 6 to receive the reduced lower end 7 of the lamp chimney 8, which is of the usual configuration. A round heating cup or receptacle 9 is supported in spaced relation to the upper peripheral edge of the chimney, by the square supporting frame 10, which is integrally attached to the cup. This frame also directs the course of the heat, causing the receptacle to be heated quickly. Attention is directed to the particular structure of the supporting frame which when placed upon the chimney will leave small openings about the peripheral edge of the chimney to permit the passage of smoke therefrom.
Secured to the sides of the cup 9 and extending downwardly therefrom, are a pair of resilient strips 11 which are curved inwardly adjacent the bottom of the chimney. The ends of these strips are bent upwardly upon themselves as at 11, and then curved outwardly and downwardly to form hooks 12 adapted to engage the annular flange 6 of the base plate 5. These hooks are rigidly held in place by the set screws 13 which extend through the doubled portion 11' of the brace strip and contact with the side of the said annular flange.
In operation, my attachment is usually used for melting sealing wax, although it is not restricted to this use. The supporting frame is placed. upon the upper edge of the lamp chimney and the resilient brace strips curved inwardly until the hooks engage the annular flange, being held in this position by the setscrews. The substance to be heated is then placed in the cup and the lamp lighted. When not in use the attachment may be easily and quickly removed from the lamp if so desired.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoincd claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim In a device of the character described, the
combination with a lamp chimney and supporting flange therefor, of an annular cup, a square frame secured to and spacing said cup from the chimney top, said frame being narrower than the diameter of the chimney top to provide a series of openings between the chimney and cup, and brace strips depending from the cup having hooks at their lower ends for engagement with said supporting flange of the chimney.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature inthe presence of two Witnesses.
SAMUEL H. WILSON.- WVitnesses FRED WHEELER, C. W. SPROULL.
