ATTACHMENT FOR STOVES.
APPLICATION FILED Ama. 1922.

' Application tiled april e, wat. vQerdal''e. 55Min.
To all 'whom t may concer/t:
Be it known thatli, donn Romane, a citizen of the United States residing at Sawtelle, lin the county of Los ngeles and State ot California, 'have invented certain new and useful improvements in Attachments for Stoves, or" which the following is a specica tion.v Y Y 'lhis invention relates to attachments for stoves, and more particularl to means for supporting a cooking vessel in proximity to' the burner of a stove.-
An object oi' the invention is the 'provisupport a cooking vessel below the top of Gti the stove.
A further object is the provision of a device of simple construction having means to regulate the distance from the top of the burner. y
A further object of the invention is the provision of means for more eiiciently utilizing the heat generated by the burner.
ln the :accompanying drawings, l have shown several embodiments of the invention. ln this showing:
Figure 1' 'is a front elevation ot an oil stove showing the invention applied, parte being shown in section,
Figure 2 isa vertical sectional view ot the top of a stove showing the invention applied,
Figure 3 is a plan View,
Figure i is a ci the invention,
Figure 5 is a central vertical sectional view on line 55 of Figure 4c, and,
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the form shown in Figures 4 and 5.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral l designates generally an oil stove, having burners'2.l These burners are provided with chimneys 3 which terminate below the top 4 of the stove. .0rdinarily, a vessel is placed on the top of th stove over .the opening. 5 which is 4arranged in alinement with the burner chimney. l have found that a considerable quantity of heat is lost by spacing the vessel or other article to be heated at such a distance-from the top of the burner and that greater eiiiciency can be obtained by providing means for supporting the article to be heated below the top of thestove in proximity to the chimney of the burner.
plan view of another form l accordingly provide an attachment consisting of a substantially circular grate formed 'of spaced bars 6. rlihe ends of thesel bars are odset, as at 7, and secured to a ring t@ 8. A skirt 9 entends beneath the bar t and is provided with a flange 10 at its upper end adapted to be secured to the bars in any suitable manner. 'lhe ring l0 is provided with a plurality of odsets 11, having openin 65 therein tor the reception of adjusting screws l2, which engage the top of the stove. The ring is further provided with a projecting handle i3 by means ot which the device may be lifted and this handle is provided with 7@ an opening la for the reception ot the ordi- 'nary stove lid litter.
ln the orm of the invention shown in Figures t to 6 of the drawings, a supporting ring is formed ot' a plurality of spaced bars 7@ l5 .having a dange 16 at their outer ends. This dange extends downwardly and is connected to a circular portion 17 having a cen-y tral opening therein. A second vertical dange i8 extends upwardly from the outer 30 end ot the circular portion i7 and this ange is provided with odsets 19 having openings therein for the reception of-regulating screws 20. A handle 21 is also secured to the flange and this handle'is provided with an opening @5 22 for the reception of a stove lid litter.
ln operation, either form of the device is placed in the opening 5 and the screws l2 are adjusted to engage the top of the stove and form a support. 'lhe vessel supporting 9@ portion 6 or 15 is thus arranged beneath the top of the stove, as shown in lt`igures2 and 5. By means of the adjusting screws, the distance between the burner chimney 3 and the passage may be regulated. When the ea burner is turned on to its full height, vthe best efiiciency is obtained by arranging the grate about an inch lower than the top oli the stove and with a lowered dame, the attachment can be lowered until it is arranged la@ very close to the top of the chimney. 'lllie device may be removed from the stove when hot by-employing the ordinary type of stove lid lifter.
- llt is to be understood that the forms of lice my invention herewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred examples of the same, and that various changes in the shape. size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit 110 ot the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l. A device of the character described comprising a grate having an upwardly extending peripheral iia'nge, the upper edge of Said flange being provided with horizontal offsets` supporting members arranged in said offsets and adapted to engage the top of a stove, and means for adjusting said supporting members.
2. A device of the character described comprising a grate having an upwardly extending peripheral'lange, the upper edge ot' said flange being provided with horizontal offsets having threaded openings formed therein, and threaded rods mounted in said openings and adapted to engage the top of a stove.
3. A device of the character described comprising a grate having an upwardly eX- tending peripheral flange, the upper edge of said flange being provided with horizontal ofsets having threaded openings formed therein, threaded rods mounted in said openings and adapted to engage the top of a stove, and amember secured to the under side oi said grate, said member being provided with a depending flange.
4. In a device of the character described. a plurality of spaced horizontal bars forming a substantially circular grate, the ends of'said bars being extended upwardly, a j
ring connected to the upper ends of said bars, said ring being provided With offsets having threaded openings. formed therein, threaded rods extending through said openings and adapted to engage the top of a stove, and a handle formed on said ring.
In testimon whereof I aHiX my signature in presence o two Witnesses.
