AMUSEMENT nn vren.
To all (whom, itqmay'concern: Be .it known that-I, .REGINALD C. PRIOR,
V a citizen of the United .States, residing at Houghton, the county of Houghton and State of Michi an, have invented certain new and useful I mprovements inAmusement Devices, of which the following is aspecifica- ,tion. j 'Ilhis invention relates to amusement devices, more particularly those {of {the see-' saw or teeter-tater type in which a pivoted member is used as a lever by two or more persons seated at or' near theendsoft-hepivoted member, it being among the objects of this invention to produce-:a device which is erably make such member in the form of av frame and place seats at either end thereof. The seats are so constructed that they may be moved into a number of positions, and means are provided whereby one side of the device 7 may be balanced so as to allow one person to operate the entire device. I further pro-' vide members hinged to the supporting structure so that the pressure of the feet thereon will cause the lever to move. The construction is such that a downward pressure of the feet on the member hinged to the supporting structure last mentioned causes motion in the opposite direction, thus allowing the operation of the device without either person coming in contact \vlth the ground or simllar fixed support.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, and in which similar reference characters denote'similar'parts,
Figure 1, illustrates a side view of my device. and
Figure 2, a plan view thereof.
The supporting structure 1 may be of any type and is securedrelatively to the ground.
'Upon the fulcrum 1 of the structure 1 is placed a frame which constitutes the balanced member. This frame consists of .two parallel longitudinal members 2 and 3 having end members 4 and 5 rigidly fixed to the longitudinal members forming the balanced frame of the device. A. reinforced frame- Specification of Letters latei it.
which is filled with sand or other work 0 ,is usuallyprovided in; conjunction with thebalanced frame.

equal/ weights inlay perfectly? balance each bother. In orderftohold the seats in their ad:
justable positions; ,I ,som'etimes provide notches 10,v in the longitudinal members in which .the pivotszi) ,and9' mayfit. V Secured to the suppQktin g structure 7 1' ata point-below the fulcrum isa member or extension 11 of any desired form. To the outer ends of member 11 members 12 and 13 are pivoted by hinges 14 and 15, respectively, and carrying ropes or cables 16 and 17at their outer ends, the free ends of said ropes being secured to the ends of the'balanced frame. The hinges 14 and 15 are placed a considerable distance to either side of fulcrum 1 in order to provide a leverage which will be sufficient to cause rocking of the balanced frame. 7
In order to allow one person to operate the device I usually provide a Weight on one side of the device for balancing the weight of the person on the' other side.
This is generally in the form of a box 18 suitable material.
The operation of the device is as follows:
Persons are, seated in seats 7 and 8 which are first adjusted so that the weights of the persons are balanced; !0I16 person then presses upon the foot board 12 or 13 while simultaneously the other person does not; this causes the balanced member to tilt in one direction and Whenthe limit of movement is reached pressure is'applied'by the other personsca'using'the balanced member'f to swing in the opposite direction. An important feature of this invention'are the; members 12 and 13 which are hinged at points a considerable'dis'tance to one side of r I the fulcrum 1'.
Having thus fully described'my said in-' desire to I Vention, what I claim as new and secure by Letters Patent,. is
1. Anamusement device. comprising a supporting structure having, a fulcrum point'at itsgupperend, a member adaptedto balance over said fulcrum point, an elongated horizontally disposed member extendingthrough and rigidly secured to parts of the supporting structure and spaced a distance above the lower end of said supporting structure, the ends of said horizontal member extending a distance on opposite sides of and below said fulcrum point, an elongated horizontally disposed member, hinged at one end to each end of the first horizontal member, and adapted to receive downward pressure at the outer ends thereof, and means for securing the outer ends of said hinged members to the outer ends of said balanced member.
2. An amusement device comprising a supporting structure, a balancing member fulcrumed on" said support, seats adjustably mounted on the balancing member, a horizontally disposed member fixed rigidly to said support at a point between its upper and lower ends and projecting a uniform distance on opposite sides of the fulcrum point of the balancing member, a pressure receiving member hinged to each end of said 1 ,eozoea fixed member the free ends of which are adapted to receive downward pressure, and flexible members for securing the free ends of. said pressure receiving members to said balancing member.
3. An amusement device comprising a rigid support, a see-saw pivoted thereto and operating means for the see-saw comprising foot-levers independent of each other extending beneath opposite ends of the same, and being of a width to support the feet,
pivots on the rigid support, each foot lever mounted at one end on one of said pivots and flexibly connected at the other end to the corresponding end of the see-saw, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Houghton, Michigan this th day of March, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty.
