To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN MILLs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seesaws, of which the following is a specification.

The objects of this invention are to provide a see-saw of improved construction; to provide improved means for mounting the rocking member on the pedestal; to provide a simple structure whereby the rocking member is also allowed to rotate upon the pedestal; to provide for adjustment of the seats with respect to the fulcrum; to secure simplicity of construction and operation, and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several views,

In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in said drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates a standard or pedestal of any desired or improved type adapted to the purpose, said standard being here shown as a central post 2 having transverse feet 3, 3, and braces 4:, 4 from the outer ends of the feet to an elevated portion of the 1 Upon the top of said standard or pedestal is pivotally .and rotatably supported the rocking member 5 of my improved see-saw. Said member comprises a frame 6 upon the top of which seats 7, 7 are secured, said seats being here shown as the end portions of a board 8 or the like extending longitudinally of the frame.

The frame preferably comprises longitudinal side bars 9, 9 shown as substantially parallel and spaced apart by means of braces or cross-pieces 10, 10. The seat portions 7, 7 of the board 8 preferably extend beyond the ends of the frame 6 so that said frame will not interfere with the use of the seesaw. Furthermore the board 8 is made adjustable longitudinally upon the frame 6, so that the distance of the seats from the fulcrum may be made inversely proportional to the weights of the users, and thus provide means for balancing the member 5 when persons of diiferent weights use the see-saw. T have shown this accomplished by means of longitudinal slots 11 in the ooard through which extend bolts or the like 12 into appropriate holes 13 in the frame. here be noted that the slots 11 are at a distance from the center of the board near the side edges thereof so as not to weaken said board either at its middle intermediate the ends nor along its median part. The presence of the slots will therefore not be detrimental in any way and the see-saw is strong and safe. The bolts 12 are provided with clamping nuts 14, whereby the board and frame may be rigidly secured in any adjusted position but at the same time aflording means for readily allowing the two parts to be readjusted. Suitable handles 15, 15 may be provided adjacent the ends of the board in proper relation to the seats 7 convenient to the user.

The frame 6 is preferably fulcrumed midway of its ends upon the pedestal 2, the particular means here shown comprising a transverse cylindrical member 16 such as a rod or tube extending through suitable alined apertures in the opposite side bars 9, 9. The outer ends of said member 16 are provided with caps 17, 17 adapted to be engaged by the adjacent side bars, and prevent the frame from sliding off said member 16 at either end. Intermediate of the ends of the member 16, and shown as midway thereof, is a depending king-pin 18 preferably secured to or made fast with respect to the transverse member 16, although I do not restrict myself to this rigid construction since it is obvious that the member 16 could readily be allowed to rotate with respect to the king-pin. A T-joint 19 is shown as connecting the end portion of said transverse member 16 and the king-pin, and providing a downwardly facing shoulder, it being understood that the king-pin 18 is inserted downwardly in the upper end of the post 2 and said shoulder limits the downward movement thereof. A washer 20 is shown upon the kingpin 18 between the shoulder and the top of the post 2, and said pin is adapted to rotate within the post 2 and thus allow the rocking member 5 of the see-saw to be rotated with respect to the pedestal as well as to tilt vertically upon the transverse member 16.

Having thus described the invention, What I claim is,

In a see-saw, the combination with supporting means, of a rocking frame With pairs of opposite bolts at its ends projecting upwardly therefrom adjacent its sides, a board superposed on said frame so as to move longitudinally thereof and providing seats at its ends, said board having pairs of opposite slots extending longitudinally thereof adjacentv the side edges of the board and adapted to receive each one of said bolts, whereby the middle of the board is imperforate and reinforced by the frame so as to give great strength and safety and at the same time permit said board to be adjusted on the frame.
